Hello,
I’m hoping you can help me figure out what is going wrong with our word press website. I am the office admin for a non-profit and I’ve been using Site Origin and the Vantage theme for the last few years for our website. It’s been wonderful for helping me create and maintain a nice looking website, without having any background in websites!
Yesterday WordPress required a a PHP update. I updated our PHP to 8.2.28 and I can no longer get the live editor to work. I’ve tried uninstalling all of our plugins, switching to the basic 2025 theme, using different PHP versions. No matter what I do, I can not get the live editor to work in any version of PHP 8, but it would start working again as soon as I switched back to any version of PHP 7.
We have a 2nd test website, which I’m currently using to test a home page redesign, before rolling it out to our main site.
I also updated this test website to PHP 8.2.28 yesterday. At first it also wouldn’t load the live editor either, but after uninstalling all of our plugins, switching to the basic 2025 theme, and then back to vantage I’ve got the Live Editor to work just fine.
I’ve spent hours trying to figure out what the difference is between the 2 sites, both on the vantage theme that is allowing one to work with PHP 8, but not the other.
Any help on what to do our how to troubleshoot this would be much appreciated.
Hi D
Thanks for the detailed feedback.
When the issue occurs, is there anything of use in red text in the browser console? Here is how to check: https://developer.wordpress.org/advanced-administration/debug/debug-javascript/#step-3-diagnosis.
Hi Andrew,
I was actually able to resolve this, but I wasn't able to update my original post with this update.
At some point (probably when I uninstalled/reinstalled the theme) the check boxes for which posts the site editor should apply to under
Settings – Page Editor – General Tab had all become unchecked. Once I updated those all to be checked the site editor started working again.
I hadn't noticed before their was a SiteOrigin menu hidden in the settings section of WordPress.
Thanks for the detailed update; glad to hear you made progress.
Cheers for now.
Andrew
