Live Editor and customize link show blank page (Vantage Theme)

By presser, 8 years ago. Last reply by jptiger, 8 years ago.

Hi,
I just upgraded to Vantage Premium. When I click on Appearance>Customize, I just get a blank page (i.e. nothing loads). Additionally, when I click on the Live Editor in Page Builder, I also get a blank page with nothing loading. The Customize link used to work before I ungraded. Am I missing something here?

Thanks

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Presser

One of the common reasons we see for this issue coming up is when the admin of your site is accessed through HTTPS and the frontend is accessed through standard HTTP. Both the customizer and the Live Editor in Page Builder use ifames, and most browsers will block non HTTPS content from being displayed in HTTPS pages. Can you check if this is the case?

If it isn’t, can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

    Hi Greg,
Thank you for your reply. Yes, my admin is accessed through https and the frontend is http, so perhaps that is the reason I am not able to access the live editor.

I tried deactivating my plugins and got the following results:
security plugin and widget bundle both on: customizer and live editor both don’t work
security plugin off and widget bundle on: customizer works, live editor doesn’t
widget bundle off and security plugin on: customizer works, live editor doesn’t
security plugin and widget bundle both off: customizer works, live editor doesn’t

I also find that I am getting memory allocation errors when the page builder and widget bundle are both on. When I turn the widget bundle off, the errors go away. Also, when I turn the page builder off with the widget bundle on, the errors go away. It seems I cannot run both together. Any thoughts?

    Thanks

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Presser

Yeah, the admin being accessed through HTTPS and the frontend being accessed through HTTP is the reason neither the customizer or live editor work. You’d need to set it up so that both are accessed in the same way – ideally though HTTPS.

As for the memory errors. Some entry level hosts have quite low default memory allocations, but you can often ask them to increase this for you.

    Hi Greg,
When I shut off the Widget Bundle, the customizer does work, so I am just using it that way. Is the siteorigin text widget available separately?

As you advised, I have asked my web hoster to look at increasing my memory allocation. Hopefully that will fix that problem.

Thanks for all your help. I must say, I am impressed with your quick responses, especially considering the large time zone difference between us (I am on Pacific time). Keep up the good work.

    Thanks

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Presser

Just checking in. Did the memory allocation increase do the trick?

    Hi Greg,
Thank you for checking. My web hoster increased the memory allocation size for my site, so now I can use the Widget Bundle and Page Builder together, which is great. I am really liking the Page Builder. It sure makes site construction easy. You have done a great job, and your service is exemplary. Keep up the good work.

Hey there, I’m having the same issue as presser, but it’s happening on my local machine using xampp. So I don’t have an obvious way to increase memory allocation (or a need to) or an obviou way to configure whether I’m connecting through anything via http or https. Any ideas on how to fix this on local machines?

    Thanks!

      Hi, I Work Here

      Hi Jptiger

It’s also possible a plugin conflict is causing a problem. If you can please, open a new support thread and then post the link here, I’d be happy to assist further. Thanks.
