Link target removed on page save (SiteOrigin Editor Widget)

If I create a link in the SiteOrigin Editor widget in Page Builder, and tick the box for “Open link in a new tab” (or even if I add the target manually in the text tab), when I save the page, the target gets removed and the link opens in the same tab.

This does not happen with the native Text widget. However, I prefer to continue using the SiteOrigin Editor widget because it is more robust and loads the editor styles defined in my theme.

I remember having this issue in the past for quite some time, but it was fixed a while back. It seems to have been re-introduced.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Amanda,

Do you have a public URL where we can take a look at what’s going on?

Also, would it be possible for you to send me an export of the SiteOrigin Editor widget you’re working on? To do this please open up the page that contains the SiteOrigin Editor widget in the editor and click the Layout button in the Page Builder toolbar. Then click import/export and then click download. Please upload the export to a 3rd party file hosting site such as WeTransfer.

Site is in progress, please ignore display issues at the moment (although I’ve also experienced this on another site we launched recently):

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Amanda,

Thanks. The link in the provided layout isn’t set to open in a new tab. Can you please try setting the link to enable in a new tab and see if that saves this time? If it doesn’t, please try importing this test layout to see if that link is set to open in a new tab, if it’s not there’s likely something on your website preventing this functionality.

Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue (you’ll need to set the link to open in a new tab to test this)? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

If you aren’t using a SiteOrigin theme, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

Tried it on a clean install and didn’t have the issue, but that helped me to figure out why.

I’ve got a filter set up in my theme to stop TinyMCE from stripping ARIA info, and in that filter I neglected to include `target` in the list of allowed attributes. The native Text widget ignores this filter (along with custom editor styles), which is why I didn’t have the problem in that one, but also part of why I prefer the SiteOrigin Editor.

Thanks for taking a look for me!
