Large WordPress database, is this normal?

Hello,

I’ve noticed that the database for a simple site is 45mb, compared to a larger site that used another page builder (wpbakery), of only 4mb.
The post_meta is the largest table, where the plugin stores its data.
Is it normal to have such an inflated database?

I only compared 2 sites that have been made with Page builder for now and both have larger databases compared to other sites.

Can this lead to performance problems?

I actually managed to use a optimization plugin and the database decreased in size significantly.
I think that it’s about post/page revisions in general.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Adrian,

The only reason I can think of this happening is due to revisions. If you have a large number of large complex pages and have made a very large number of edits (say, 100+) it’s possible that could easily inflate the database if you don’t have a revision limit set. For reference, you can set a revision limit, which is a limit on the total number of revisions per post, you’ll need to edit your wp-config.php file and define set WP_POST_REVISIONS. If you need help with doing this, I would reach out to your hosting provider for assistance with making this file edit.
