Issue with SiteOrgin Image Widget

Notice: This thread is over two years old; the information may be outdated. Please consider creating a new thread if you require free support. If you have an active SiteOrigin Premium license, you can email our premium support desk at [email protected].

We’ve started to have issues with our images on our website and have narrowed it down to an issue with the SiteOrgin Image Widget.

In short, we have a few issues.

* We have a carrousel on our our home page, and normally it would allow images that were not perfect to ratio and not distort them. Now, it will stretch and make them look weird. Currently, the only way around this, is for us to manually change the images, then upload them to wordpress but that wasn’t the case before.
* When we normally upload images on our various pages, in the backend, there was an option to resize the images via the widget. This option is no longer there and like above, we have to manually make the change and then upload.
* When using the SiteOrigin Image widget on a page for headshots and links, we recently added an image. It shows up in the editor, but not on the live page.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is the page we had to manually change the size via the image and not the WordPress editor: https://3sixtyinsights.com/about-us/global-executive-advisory-council/larry-mcalister/

This is the the page that is not showing the widget image: https://3sixtyinsights.com/about-us/global-executive-advisory-council/global-executive-advisory-council-members/

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Nicholas

    Thanks for getting in touch.

    – The home page carousel looks to be authored by Smart Slider. Nextend, the authors would be best positioned to answer any Smart Slider related queries.

    – Within the SiteOrigin Image Widget, click Choose Media; once you’ve uploaded and selected an image, check the right column. The Edit link is positioned there. Click Edit to move into the modal editing window. I tested this process before replying.

    – Are you using a caching or performance-type plugin? It looks like it. Please, try clearing your site’s cache and re-checking the page.

    Thanks again.

    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

    – I’ve cleared cache on the site and that did not seem to do anything.
    – Regarding performance plug-in’s, those are mostly disabled, as it was causing issues similar to what I am dealing with now with images a while back (stretching, etc).
    – I’ve checked the widget once again, and there is no option to resize to a custom size via a specific pixel size like it was prior to this issue. Previously, there was an option to set a “custom size” and you could simply enter in the length and width size, this is completely gone.

Is there any way to reinstall or update this widget? I am not seeing this option and I’ve had success doing this with other items in the past.

    Thank you,
    Nick

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Nick

    Thanks for the updates.

I’m unaware of any updates to the SiteOrigin Image Widget that would impact the functionality you’re querying. The WordPress core handles the Add Media modal window.

    – If you select Custom Image Size, you can set a width and height within the SiteOrigin Image Widget:
    https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/custom-size.jpg

    – If you upload a new image, you can edit it once the upload has been finished. The WordPress core handles the editing process:
    https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/edit-image-scaled.jpg
    https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/edit-image-details-scaled.jpg

Thank you for the note and the images. Unfortunately, this is my issue, those options are no longer available within our instance of WordPress and what I have been attempting to explain. They simply have disappeared and nothing I have tried has brought them back.. Something is broken with the widget.

I’ve uploaded three screenshots to share what I am seeing on my side.

This image is what we seen when we attempt to edit an image in a post:
    https://3sixtyinsights.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Screenshot-2023-01-30-134103.png

This is what we see when we go to an image within the media section of WordPress
    https://3sixtyinsights.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Screenshot-2023-01-30-134200.png

This is what we see when we select “edit image” in the above screenshot. Here it simply gives us the ability to crop the image… but there is nothing available to set the image size.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Nick

Thanks for the screenshots. We, unfortunately, aren’t in control of the core WordPress media editing features.

    – Is the situation any different if you add an image outside of Page Builder using the Classic or Block Editor?
    – Are you using WordPress.com?

  6. 2 years, 5 months ago Nicholas Biron

But, from what I understand, is that WordPress uses this widget for their image function, is this not correct?

Yes, we are using WordPress platform and it appears that the experience is the same regardless of how the image is uploaded.

    Hi, I Work Here

If the issue persists outside of a SiteOrigin widget, then, unfortunately, it’s a core issue and not specifically related to SiteOrigin. You could confirm this by temporarily deactivating all SiteOrigin plugins and re-checking the issue in the core WordPress editor.

WordPress has a core Image Widget. If you search for “image” in Page Builder when adding a widget, you’ll see both the core widget “Image Widget” and the “SiteOrigin Image Widget”. The SiteOrigin Image Widget is authored by SiteOrigin and added by way of the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle plugin.

    Please, see https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/widgets-scaled.jpg.

I’m not sure where to find that… When I go to “page builder Settings”, it brings me to “SiteOrgin Page Builder”, which does not show those options. It appears that our site is using “SiteOrgin as the editor”

Also, one of the issues I mentioned, regardless of the sizing. Is specifically with the with the “siteOrigin Image widget”.. I’ve attached a screenshot, where is clearly shows that the widget is in use, but doesn’t show the image on the live site.
https://3sixtyinsights.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Screenshot-2023-01-30-143107.png < This is our backend

https://3sixtyinsights.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Screenshot-2023-01-30-143153.png < This is the live site, you can see that the Larry McAlister Image is missing and is setup exactly the same as all of the others.

Here is also a screenshot, where it shows the option to click on page builder settings:
    https://3sixtyinsights.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Screenshot-2023-01-30-143441.png

And, here is the page it takes me to, which is "SiteOrigin Page Builder"

    Hi, I Work Here

    Thanks for your feedback.

In your first screenshot, you’ll see the view from my screenshot if you click the Add Widget button. My screenshot explains what a core WordPress widget is and what a SiteOrigin widget is. The SiteOrigin Image Widget is not a core WordPress widget; the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle plugin supplies it.

The Larry M image is present. It’s added with image dimensions of 1 x 1 which means it isn’t visible. Please, try editing the SiteOrigin Image Widget with Larry M’s screenshot and send us a screenshot. Thanks.

I’m sorry, but not seeing where it is an Image dimension of 1×1 for the Larry umage. When I click on edit of that particular image, you’ll see that the image size is set to Thumbnail (200×150): https://3sixtyinsights.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Screenshot-2023-01-30-145311.png

    Hi, I Work Here

    Thanks for the screenshot.

I’m unsure why the image is currently output with width and height set to 1.

    – A quick option is to delete the widget and re-add it.
    – If that doesn’t help, try the SiteOrigin Editor Widget > Add Media button to see if there is a difference.
    – You could also try regenerating thumbnails to see if that has any effect https://wordpress.org/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails-advanced/.

  12. 2 years, 5 months ago Nicholas Biron

How do I delete the widget, it only allows me to Activate and Deactivate, there is no delete option.. I’ve attempted to do that once before and it did not work.

  13. 2 years, 5 months ago Nicholas Biron

Also, btw: Our theme is Vantage by SiteOrigin, which is most likely why our images are being processed by the SiteOrigin Image Widget…

  14. 2 years, 5 months ago Nicholas Biron

Also, the carousel I mentioned earlier on that was no longer was posting images properly, is the SiteOrgin Post Carousel as you can see in this screenshot.

    https://3sixtyinsights.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Screenshot-2023-01-30-152453.png

Pretty much all of our issues are related to SiteOrigin… Again, we changed nothing in our backend, it just stopped working properly.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Thanks for the update.

You can delete a widget by hovering over it and clicking the Delete link.
    https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/widget-action-links-scaled.jpg

Vantage is in no way controlling how you manage content, which editor you use, or which widgets you insert.

    Hi, I Work Here

Within the Post Carousel Widget, you can try checking the Featured Image size setting. There might be a size that works better than the currently selected Featured Image Size. Regenerating your thumbnails (https://wordpress.org/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails-advanced/) is also worth a try in addition to checking the setting – assuming you can install an image regeneration plugin on WordPress.com.

  17. 2 years, 5 months ago Nicholas Biron

I thought you meant, we could delete the widget in the back-end…. I’ve attempted to delete and readd on that page, this did not fix the issue.

Is there a way we can schedule a phone call, with screenshare to review or to escalate to a different tier support. I feel like we are not on the same page.. Something is broken when using this widget, it used to work perfectly and now it doesn’t. This widget is used across our site and would like to find a remedy. We’ve already attempted reaching to WordPress and they are telling us it is a SiteOrigin issue.

  18. 2 years, 5 months ago Nicholas Biron

Before I install something that could essentially break every image size on the website, I would like to fix what the actual issue is.

    Hi, I Work Here

If re-adding the SiteOrigin Image Widget didn’t help, please, try moving onto my two other suggestions.

    – If that doesn’t help, try the SiteOrigin Editor Widget > Add Media button to see if there is a difference.
    – You could also try regenerating thumbnails to see if that has any effect https://wordpress.org/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails-advanced/.

We’re on the same page. I’m unable to recreate the issues you’ve encountered, so, unfortunately, don’t have a specific fix to offer other than the troubleshooting steps I’ve suggested above. You don’t necessarily need to add images using the SiteOrigin Image Widget; you can use the SiteOrigin Editor Widget or the core Image Widget. Both are accessible via the Add Widget button in Page Builder.

If you’d like to migrate to email support where we can log in and directly assist with queries, please, consider a SiteOrigin Premium license. Thanks.

Ok, a Premium Subscription will allow you or someone from support to log in directly? Can you confirm, if so, I will set that up shortly.

    Hi, I Work Here

    When you upload an image to WordPress, the core will generate thumbnails such as 150px x 150px or 300px x 300px (Medium);
various sizes based on the size requirements of the core, your theme, and your plugins.

Regenerate thumbnail plugins, re-run that generation process, nothing else. Regenerate thumbnail plugins can adjust image sizes and create new image sizes, that’s not the feature I’m suggesting using. Regenerating thumbnails on their own won’t break images on your site—more on that below:
    https://www.wpbeginner.com/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails-new-image-sizes-wordpress/.

I’m logging off at GMT+2. Alex will be online later at GMT+13. We can log in to your site within our premium support scope as soon as we have availability. You can reach us at [email protected]. Thanks!
