Issue with PageBuilder

I’ve created a site with a Home page and about 12 additional pages. Over the past two days, when I open the Home page for editing, PageBuilder usually doesn’t load (nor does standard editing). There is just a big white empty content box. PageBuilder does seem to load the first time I go in to edit, but when I make a change and hit Update, the content does change but then I get the empty white box. This happens only on the Home page – PageBuilder works fine on every other page.

Hi, I Work Here

Hi Tony

Sorry for the confusion of Facebook regarding the cause of the problem you’ve encountered, we’ll do our best to assist. Please, upgrade Page Builder and your theme back to their current versions.

It’s possible that you’re facing a plugin conflict or perhaps a memory shortage, we won’t know more till you’ve done some troubleshooting to isolate the cause.

Plugin Conflict Check

Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

If the issue is not fixed with all non-SiteOrigin plugins disabled then a plugin conflict is most likely not the cause.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

If you aren’t using a SiteOrigin theme, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

Memory Check

If you find a plugin conflict isn’t the cause, install and activate https://wordpress.org/plugins/server-ip-memory-usage/. Once activated, when logged into WordPress, check the footer. Copy and paste the read out there, what memory percentage is available, what is the total amount on offer.

Thanks. I’ll also ask Alex (once he’s back online in the morning) to take a look to see if he has any further advice to offer.

Turned off the plugins, cleared caches, problem still exists.

Loaded the memory plugin. Memory: 33 of 256 MB (13%) | WP LIMIT: 40 MB I assume that means 33 MB used, not 33 MB left. So, that doesn’t seem to be a problem.

I’ll try switching to another theme to see what happens shortly.

I had first worked through this with BlueHost 2 days ago. After 2 long tech support sessions they concluded it is a plugin conflict.

Hi, I Work Here

Thanks. It isn’t a memory issue so that’s ruled out.

Next step would be to temporarily switch to a default theme like Twenty Seventeen and try editing the home page. Please, try doing this with all non-SiteOrigin plugins temporarily deactivated. That’ll give you a baseline, a vanilla setup.

If the issue persists, please send me an export of your home page.
Go to Pages > Edit the home page, in Page Builder click Layouts > Import/Export and then in the bottom right corner, download the layout in JSON format. Not sure we can email that file, you might need to upload it Dropbox or similar and send me the link.

Hi, I Work Here

To jump ahead, if the theme test doesn’t reveal results, please check for JavaScript console errors as you see the issue when editing the page. Here is how. If errors are present, please paste them here.

I spent hours online with Bluehost support Tuesday night. We were eventually able to determine that the Home page will not work if I have any of the following plugins activated: SiteOrigin Widgets Package, SiteOrigin PageBuilder, and Contact Form 7.

All of these worked fine for the past month. I cannot venture a guess as to why all three are suddenly causing conflict. Now I don’t know what to do. I created a form with Contact Form 7. So, is that gone? I can’t write HTML code but your PageBuilder shuts down the Home page (but it works on the others).

Bluehost has said (for the second time) that “It’s not a server-side issue”.

What do I do?

Bluehost suggested this: Ask if there are any specific server requirements that must be met in order for SiteOrigin plugins to work.

Hi, I Work Here

Hi Tony

Thanks for the feedback.

Default Theme Test
Please, can you confirm that you’ve tested with the following setup.

All plugins deactivated except for Page Builder and the Widgets Bundle.
A default theme like Twenty Seventeen activated.

Please, let me know if you’ve run that test including clearing cache after deactivating all non-SiteOrigin plugins. Does the issue persist with the above setup?

Console Error Check
Next, if the issue does persist with the above setup, have you checked for JavaScript errors in the console? Here is how: https://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Your_Browser_to_Diagnose_JavaScript_Errors#Step_3:_Diagnosis.
Are there any errors in the console? If there are, please send them.

Exporting the Layout
Finally, if the issue persist with the default theme test and there are no errors in the console, please send me the JSON layout for the home page, here is how: Go to Pages > Edit the home page, in Page Builder click Layouts > Import/Export and then in the bottom right corner, download the layout in JSON format. Not sure we can email that file, you might need to upload it Dropbox or similar and send me the link.

PHP Version
Please, let us know which PHP version you’re running. If you check the footer in the WordPress admin, it’ll be there next to the PHP usage report.

So we can best assist, as quickly as possible, please let me know about all four items above. We’ll get this resolved for you as quickly as possible but do need to know about each item above, done in order. Many thanks.

Default Theme Test — Please, can you confirm that you’ve tested with the following setup.

I did this Wednesday morning with the Twenty-Sixteen Theme. Same issue.

—————

Console Error Check — Check for JavaScript errors in the console.

I did this on Wednesday morning… also did it yesterday. I do not know where to find the file wp-config.php to insert the message. That file is not found on my computer. However, I did enable the JavaScript check and it showed no errors.

—————

PHP Version — Which PHP version is in the footer in the WordPress admin next to the PHP usage report.

I cannot find anything that shows a PHP version or PHP usage report anywhere.

—————

I will attempt to export the layout to you.

10. 6 years, 5 months ago Tony H

I went through your instructions to export the JSON layout. This cannot be done because Page Builder does not load into the Home page editor.

Let me review the issue.

I have a Home page and 13 other pages. When Page Builder is activated… it works in the 13 other pages. However, it does not load for the Home page. Instead, the only editing choices that show are Visual and Text… But it is stuck in Text and will not switch to Visual. So, all that I can see is a long line of HTML code.

When I deactivate Page Builder, I am able to toggle between Visual and Text in the Home page editor.

Would it make sense to just build a new Homepage?

Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for the feedback.

Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look? You can create the account with the following email address:

Private Snippet

Just navigate to UsersAdd New in your WordPress admin. Enter siteorigin for the username and Private Snippet for the email address. Make sure you’ve selected Administrator for the role and enabled the Send Password field so we receive the details.

Once we’re finished taking a look, you can delete this account. We’ll let you know when to do that.

Hi, I Work Here

(Sure, building a new home page is definitely an option, but if possible, please let us take a look first. Thanks for all of the testing feedback. If the issue persists with only SiteOrigin plugins and a default theme then it isn’t likely to be a plugin conflict.)

14. 6 years, 5 months ago Tony H

Thank you…

I’ve established that account so you should have been notified by now.

I started a new Home page (named Homepage).

Hi, I Work Here

Thanks, unfortunately the email hasn’t arrived, you’d see it here. If possible, please let us know your URL and I’ll reset from there. Thanks.

The site is http://www.UnmannedResponse.com <http://www.unmannedresponse.com/> but I have a “coming soon” up. (I had disabled this for the tests.)

I have another admin account. I can send you that login info if this is a safe communication.

Hi, I Work Here

When I try reset the form error is that there is no user with the email address Private Snippet

19. 6 years, 5 months ago Tony H

I created the new user but it’s not there. I just did it again and it’s still not there. Now I gotta figure out what I’m doing wrong with that. I just did what I always do for new users although I’ve never used Private Snippet for an email address.

Hi, I Work Here

Ahh our private snippet isn’t working correctly. Here is the email address exposed, sorry:

Hi, I Work Here

Thanks.

WordPress PHP limit is set to 40mb, let’s increase that, I can turn on debug at the same time. Let’s speed things up a little. Please, can you email me a set of FTP details to [email protected].

Not sure what FTP details are? They’re basically a username and password. More on that here. https://my.bluehost.com/hosting/help/ftpaccounts

You’re using PHP 5.6.32. Please see the How to enable section here: https://my.bluehost.com/hosting/help/447. See if you can increase your PHP version to the highest 7.x.x they offer. Recommended for WordPress is 7.2, it’s better for all of your plugins.

24. 6 years, 5 months ago Tony H

Ok… give me a few to do all this

25. 6 years, 5 months ago Andrew Misplon
Hi, I Work Here

The PHP change fixed the home page. Please, send me those FTP details so I can up your allowed memory.
