Is it possible to create widgets / rows that are reusable?

9 years ago · Last reply by Alex S 9 years ago

We want to be able to create widgets that are reusable across a number of pages. Is that possible in any way? We are are of the clone feature, but that clones the whole page not just the widget or row we want to insert at any point.

    Hi Karl,

    Unfortunately, no. :(

There is a method of doing this but it’s a tad complicated. Basically, build the row / widgets you wish to reuse inside of a layout builder widget. Once finished click layouts and then open Import/Export. Export the layout and rename it with a descriptive name. Then when you wish to import this simply either import it (click where you wish to import it, layouts, import / Export, upload layout, insert before / after) via the previous method (using the insert after or before functionality) or import it into a layout builder widget (create widget, open widget, layouts, import / Export, upload layout, insert).

I know it’s not ideal but it’s the closest thing currently. :( This feature is definitely something that will eventually be added.

Thanks Alex for the information. It seems a bit complicated.

Are there any plugins out there that manage content from a central location?

      Hi Karl,

Unfortunately, not at this time. :( Sorry mate.

I just tried it, it is not really complicated, just cumbersome. :)

It would be great to have the ability to add the widget to the existing ones.

      Hi Torsten,

That’s a much better word for it. I would say it’s only really complicated once and from then on it’s as you’ve stated, cumbersome.

You can actually do that. Please open a page where you wish to import something and click the Layouts button. Go to Import/Export and upload your layout. Click the insert button and click either insert after or before.

This will add what you just uploaded either at the top of the layout or at the bottom. Simply move the widget / row to where you desire it and you’re good to go. I typically recommend a layout builder as it’s not uncommon for someone to accidently click replace rather insert.
