installing mobile menu

The responsive mobile menu that comes with the Vantage them is a bit confusing (have to tap the arrow to get drop down, tapping the word just takes you straight to a page). I’m trying to use a plugin that offers this functionality and have tried 2 but can’t seem to get them to work.

Do I need to check or uncheck the Enabled box next to Responsive Menu on the Navigation settings tab? When I check it, the Vantage mobile menu AND the plugin appear. When I uncheck it, the standard menu AND the plugin menu appear.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Mark

Once you’ve disabled the responsive menu in Vantage, then it’s up to the plugin you’re using to take over and handle this functionality. So it would be a matter of just trying out a few different responsive menu plugins until you find one you like.

This is one I’ve tried out in the past. When I tested it, it worked quite well with Vantage.

Thanks for the reply Greg. I run into the same issue with the plugin you suggested – the standard menu doesn’t go away when the responsive mobile menu is activated, so I end up with two menus on mobile devices.

The real issue I was looking to work around is that the mobile menu built into Vantage has a menu item, in my case “About” or “News & Events”, and then an arrow to the right of it. Because there is no hover feature on mobile like there is on desktop, intuitively you tap About or News & Events, not the arrow to the right of it, and it takes you to a page instead of showing the sub-headings in each menu item.

Is there a way to block this behavior on the Vantage mobile menu so that tapping the word has the same effect as tapping the arrow? Is there a way to change the color of the arrow to indicate (hopefully) that it has a different action than the word?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Mark

Just letting you know that we’ve logged this as an issue in our issue tracker. We’ll investigate the core issue of it not being possible to replace the default menu with one of these mobile menu plugins.

As for the default behaviour. One option is to add menu items that just link to #. The menu handles this by automatically showing the sub section when the user taps it. From a functionality stand point, it makes sense that if a menu item has a link itself, tapping on the item should take the user to that page. Only when the menu item doesn’t have a URL, should tapping on the item display the sub items.

    Hope that makes sense :)

Thanks Greg. It does make sense, but I can’t figure out how to link to #. The WP interface only allows me to link to an existing page. What’s the secret?

In this case, the secret would be custom links :)

That did the trick. Thanks Greg

I have tried everything in all the related posts, I can not get the sub menu’s to work on mobile devices, they are not responsive. I also do not see Vantage Premium in my appearance menu – It looks like this has been an issue for a while, is there a fix to this?
