Images links not working anymore in SiteOrigin Image widget

Hi,
Since few weeks now all my images in SiteOrigin Image widget are not opening anything although a clic is normally opening a new tab to the url defined.
I can see the url when hovering the image and do a right clic/open to get rid of this but I would prefer to do a normal clic on the image to open the link.
In the SiteOrigin editor, the links on text is working correctly (normal clic open a new tab).

Could you help me please? Any problem linked to a recent update? Plugin conflict?
Christophe

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Christophe,

Do you have a public URL where we can take a look at what’s going on?

  2. 6 years, 6 months ago monkeypoint

    Hi Alex,

Yes sure, you can check these urls:
    http://www.eci38.fr/partenaires/
    http://www.eci38.fr/partenaires/les-amis/
    http://www.eci38.fr/partenaires/magasins-partenaires/

Each of these pages uses the same structure based on siteorigin widgets. The links to external resources are attached both to the images and to the title in the siteorigin editor widget.
Only the link in the text from siteorigin editor widget is opening a new tab with the targeted url.
Nothing happens with a click on the image, but still a right click on the image provides the url.

There is another page (http://www.eci38.fr/bibliotheque-de-topos-publics/) where the Toolset plugin is used to display images and there a click on any image opens correctly a lightbox container (but these are internal links)

    Any help would be appreciated!
    Kind regards,
    Christophe

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Christophe,

This isn’t working as a result of a plugin conflict – specifically, how a certain plugin (or your theme) runs checks on links.

This sounds like it could be a plugin conflict issue. Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

If you aren’t using a SiteOrigin theme, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

    Hi Alex,
I will try to disable plugins and see if the issue is still there.
But I’m rather busy at the moment so will do this next week only.
I’ll let you know the outcome.
Please can you keep this ticket open?
    Thanks

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Monkeypoint,

    Yes, that’s fine.

    Hi Alex,
I finally managed to check and disable all plugins then re-enable step by step each plugin.
The issue is identified with the “NextGEN Gallery” plugin V2.2.54 from Imagely.

Could you check this plugin incompatibility?
Do I need to raise this issue also to Imagely?

    Regards,
    Christophe

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Christophe,

So, to clarify, this issue doesn’t occur if you disable NetGEN Gallery? Does this issue occur if temporarily disable all non-SiteORigin plugins expect for NextGEN Gallery?

Regardless, we don’t specifically check this plugin for incompatibilities as there aren’t (prior to this) any reports of any. I don’t think this issue is specifically linked to this plugin and instead, indirectly related.

    Hi Alex,
The issue disappears when I disable NextGen Gallery and reappears when I enable it while all SiteOrigin plugins are enabled. This occurs even if other plugins (except SiteOrigin ones and NextGen Gallery) are disabled.

So it was not the case before but I can’t remember from which release of both plugins it started to fail.

What is the next step now?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Christophe,

Can you please re-enable Next Gen gallery so I can inspect your markup again?

    It is enabled!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Monkeypoint,

That’s odd. I asked because it was working without issue for me. Are you able to replicate this issue in a different browser or computer?

  12. 6 years, 5 months ago monkeypoint

    Hi Alex,
I just tested with Ffox, IE and Chrome. None of these navigators give expected result. A clic on any image doesn’t open a new tab with the link embedded in the image.

Could you give me details about your test? Which navigator are you using?
Did you test images in these pages:
    http://www.eci38.fr/partenaires/
    http://www.eci38.fr/partenaires/les-amis/
    http://www.eci38.fr/partenaires/magasins-partenaires/

    Regards,
    Christophe

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Christophe,

That’s odd, I just tried it again and it wasn’t working (It was working when I posted my last reply and the time before that). Can you please temporarily disable your minify plugin? For reference, I was using Chrome.

  14. 6 years, 5 months ago monkeypoint

    Hi Alex,
Which minify plugin are talking about? I use WP-Rocket for minifying html and JS files. I tested with no JS minify option and no change.
Do you want me to test with WP rocket disabled completely? Or are you referring to another minify plugin?

What about the impact of NextGen Gallery?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Monkeypoint,

Please disable WP Rocket in general – both JS and HTML.

What about the impact of NextGen Gallery?

I’m unable to answer this unless the minify is disabled as this may not be directly related, just unintentionally related. I’ll know for sure once the minify has been disabled.

    Hi Alex,
I just disabled WP Rocket for testing but no change on the pages. No new tab opens when click on images. I tested in chrome.
Let me know when you have checked then I will re-enable WP-rocket.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Monkeypoint,

Thanks. I’ve worked out why this is happening and unfortunately, this isn’t something we can fix. We apply noopener and noreferrer to the links set to open in a new window for security reasons and the NextGen FancyGallery code isn’t set up to handle this. You’ll need to reach out to them about fixing this issue as this.

    Hi Alex,
Thanks for your support. I agree with your safe approach on links opening new window.
I will address this to the Nextgen team then! Even though I don’t understand why this plugin has an impact on links opened by SiteOrigin widget…
    Regards,
    Christophe

    Hi Alex,
I just found, thanks to your analysis that there was an option set in NextGen Gallery / “Lightbox effect” that applied the Fancybox to all images on the site. I modified to apply to only Nextgen galleries and now it works fine!

I will anyhow raise this issue to NextGen team concerning their Fancybox scripts.

So I guess you can close this ticket now!
    Thanks.
