Image Url changes in Siteorigin editor

In Sitiorigin Editor in a text widget using the North Theme I am using a shortcode that renders a shopping cart button image. Parameters for the button include information that is passed on to the plugin’s code. One of the parameters is the product image thumbnail, represented by the product’s image URL from the media library, which does not show in the text widget or the button, it is only meant to show up when the visitor visits their shopping cart page when there are items contained in it. In the short code I would add this inside it:

image="http://.../.../someimage.jpg"
The problem is that on the “visual” tab the URL becomes the image coded as
<a href="http://.../.../someimage.jpg"</a>
and in the text tab of the editor it completes with the addition of the html code without the image. This change, the addition of code, breaks the plain text format of the image link text entered inside the shortcode parameter.

Also it is very difficult to use html character symbol entities inside a shortcode. Coding does not allow double quotation marks, for example:

[tab title=”20″x30″ Scarf”]
though if I use
[tab title=”20"x30" Scarf”]
the Siteorigin Editor changes the entities back to ” as soon as one goes back into the widget to edit anything.

I can, with luck, trick the text to do what is needed though if I go back to edit that text within the SiteOrigin Editor at a later time to update or change anything in that widget, once it is re-opened to edit, all the tricked text has changed to the added html coding and entity rendering of symbols. This can become frustrating as one’s site grows. Is there a proper way to deal with these issues? I don’t believe it’s the Siteorigin Editor’s fault as it can be an advantage to quicken html code as it does, though I’m sure many people also rely on other 3rd party short code plugins because they as well save on a great deal of repetition and sometimes complex html coding.

thank you,
John

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi John

    Thanks for explaining. Do you need to be using the SiteOrigin Editor in this instance? If not, have you tried using the default Text widget? Be sure to disable the Automatically add paragraphs option.

    text-widget

    Which plugin are you using to power these shortcodes?

    Hi Andrew,

    Thank you for the suggestion to use the WP default Text Widget. Yes, that works much better with the shortcodes. It does not seem to change the plain text image URLs or the entity codes.

    Though now there’s a small problem with css formatting the default WP text widget. In the “Widget Styles” I am not able to easily assign and save any “Attribute/Class/etc” or “Design/padding” to the WP default text widget within the Siteorigin editor. After a number of attempts the padding size I assigned finally took! Good I’m persistent! lol

    I use the shortcuts from two developers. “WP Simple Paypal Shopping cart” and “WordPress Shortcodes”. The later I only use their tabs and sections accordion elements.

    thanks :-)

    Hi, I Work Here

    Thanks for the wait. Mmm, you should still see the normal widget styles panel when using the Text widget. Here is what I see:

    text-widget

    Is it not the same on your site?

    Glad to hear you’ve made progress.

    This is exactly what I see as well. I should have tried to diagnose the source code when it wasn’t saving my formatting. I just tried to change and save it a number of times until it took. All I needed was a simple 2em padding around the element. As far as I can tell the problem is solved. Actually your’s was such a simple, probably obvious, solution though I guess I thought to myself why use the WP Text Widget when SO has one at my finger-tips, lol.

    again, thank you for the help,
    John
