Image Slider: Images same height (portrait + landscape)

I use Astra theme together with Siteorigin.
In some of my Siteorign sliders, portrait and landscape images are mixed. I would like the height to always remain constant, e.g. always 500px. Unfortunately the height changes depending on the height of the respective photos (portrait – landscape),
I’ve tried everything, including vh, vmin, vmax, but nothing works.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.

    Hi Elke

    Thanks for posting your question.

If you’ve set a height value in the DesignHeight setting and it’s not taking effect, please share a link to an impacted slider, and we’ll take a look.

    Hi Andrew,
Thank you for your answer, which I only saw now because I didn’t receive it by email.
Please look at the slider at the bottom of this page:

I would like the height of the photos (regardless of whether landscape or portrait format) to always be the same and of course also that the requirement for responsiveness is met.

    Thank you for your answer.

    Hi Andrew,
thank you for your quick answer.
I didn’t specify a height because I had already tried everything (100%, 100vh, vmin..), but nothing worked.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Elke

The Height field is the only mechanism within the Slider Widget to achieve a uniform height. A px value would be best. Try 930 px for Desktop and 291 px for Responsive Height.

  7. 1 month, 8 days ago Elke9999

Unfortunately that doesn’t work either (I had already tried different px sizes).
The photos are totally distorted on the smartphone (please have a look)
Is it possible that the widget is not compatible with the Astra theme at this point?

    Hi, I Work Here

At PluginsSiteOrigin WidgetsSlider: Settings you can up the Responsive breakpoint to a higher value, say 1000 px. If you aren’t seeing the height change to your assigned Responsive Height at the breakpoint, that’s something I can log as an issue on our end.

    Thank you agin Andrew.
I changed the setting as suggested. It’s ok on the desktop now, but the photos on the smartphone are still totally distorted, even though I checked the “Always show navigation on mobile” box.

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks, I can pass this on to be looked at. What value is set as the Responsive Height within the Slider Widget, and what value is set as the breakpoint at PluginsSiteOrigin WidgetsSlider: Settings?

  11. 1 month, 7 days ago Elke9999

At the breakpoint I set (as you suggested) 1000px,
    responsive height: 150px (I also tried 291px)

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Elke

Thanks for the wait. Please find a beta release for the Widgets Bundle here. The beta release restores the Responsive Height setting. Once the ZIP file is on your desktop, it can be installed from PluginsAdd NewUpload Plugin, overwriting the existing version when prompted. Please let us know how you get on.

    Cheers

    Hi Andrew,
Thank you for your further answer.
I installed the beta version and am satisfied, even if it is not optimal:
The responsive height is optimal at 70vw (at least on the smartphone), but unfortunately the image size is not always optimal on the desktop because I specify a value of 930 px. For example, the height is too large for a Microsoft Surface, as 930 px is fixed and the responsive height is not implemented for the Surface.

    I have still one question:
Will there be updates for the beta version of the widget bundle and/or will the beta version soon become the main version?

Thank you very much for your support and your solution!

    Kind regards,
    Elke

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Elke

Thanks for your feedback. Nothing further is required; the next version of the Widgets Bundle will include the change. If you have auto-updated enabled, the update will run automatically.

The Slider Widget was originally released as a minimal slider without a height option. Height options were added later. I’ve logged your feedback. Perhaps we can find a way to improve the set height options in the future. Sorry, I don’t have more right now.

    Thanks again.

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for your understanding. We’ll look to create a new slider widget in the future using the https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Element/picture.

    Cheers for now.
