image sizes

Hi my website suddenly doesn’t have the different size of media images. When I insert image it no longer gives the option to insert thumbnail, medium & custom sizes.

I’ve upgraded all plugins, wordpress and themes and it’s made no difference. I have been using a plugin called ‘Resize image after upload’ which reduced the images to a certain size as I uploaded them. This no longer works.

Any idea why? I’m using all the same plugins I normally use. The problem was there before I upgraded the themes, plugins & wordpress so can’t think it’s because of that either.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Elise

This sounds like it could be a plugin conflict issue. Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

Hi I’ve disabled all plugins except for Contact form 7, Metaslider, Page Buider by Siteorigen.

It then worked like normal for 1 image, I then put back ‘Resize image after upload’ and it worked for one image. Then I put on Metaslider Lightbox plugin and it stopped working. I removed the plugin and it still wouldn’t work. I removed all plugins again and still when I upload an image it still doesn’t work. Same thing happened to me last night – it worked for one image, I then added a plugin it stopped working, removed the plugin and it carried on not working.
I’m using the same plugins on all my other websites and they are working fine. I know Contact form 7 isn’t yours but I can’t disable that. Maybe I shouldn’t have updated the wordpress as not all the plugins are compatible. But then it seems like the plugins don’t make any difference.

What other plugins are considered to be Site origin plugins?

I also disabled the metaslider for a short while and this made no difference either. I’ve upgraded plugins, theme & wordpress on another site and it’s having the same problem there too now.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Elise

Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look? You can create the account with the following email address:

    [email protected]

Just navigate to Users > Add New in your WordPress admin. Enter siteorigin for the username and [email protected] for the email address. Make sure you’ve selected Administrator for the role and enabled the “Send Password” field so we receive the details.

Once we’re finished taking a look, you can delete this account. We’ll let you know when to do that.

Hi it seems to be working now with all my plugins on. Maybe one of the plugins caught up with the update somehow.
    thanks for your help.

No it’s not working again. Seems like it works once or twice then stops. I’ve just uploaded a picture & its accessible only in it’s full size, it wasn’t reduced on upload and there’s no option to insert a small or medium size.

    Hi, I Work Here

Before I login, please, can you ask your hosts to increase the available PHP memory to WordPress to 256m if it’s not already at that level.

You can do it yourself from wp-config.php if you’re feeling up for the task:

    https://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php#Increasing_memory_allocated_to_PHP

The inconsistency of the issue hints towards a possible memory issue.

    Hi it’s been done.
    They said:
I can confirm that I have increased your memory allocation to 256mb, by adding a file called php.ini in the public_html folder of your package. You can confirm this by going here: http://oldfoundrychapel.co.uk/phpinfo.php
and searching for: memory_limit Where you will see the local and server values, both now show 256. If you ever need to increase the memory size in the future, just do as I have above, create a php.ini file and place this line in it:
    memory_limit = 256M

Hi I’m afraid it’s still having the same problem. After increasing the memory limit as suggested I uploaded an image and it worked fine. This morning I upload an image and it is available in one size only. I am also not able to use the ‘edit’ function in order to scale down the image like I could before. Please can you have a look – I sent the login details. thanks

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for the update. It’s a plugin conflict with RPS Gallery, if you de-activate that plugin the issue resolves.

    Hi, I Work Here

Jetpack Tiled Galleries and Jetpack Carousel might be a nice alternative.

  15. 8 years, 10 months ago Eli Langley

Thanks, I de-activated that plugin and uploaded pics, still same problem. The problem is that it works sometimes for a couple pics so sometimes it looks like if you deactivate a plugin it sorts out the problem but then it doesn’t when uploading again.
I tried completely deleting that plugin and tried again – worked perfect for one photo then uploaded a few more and was back to previous problem.

    Hi, I Work Here

Sorry to hear that didn’t resolve the problem. This is a core WordPress feature, not related to Vantage or anything SiteOrigin, it should be working. I can’t see any obvious reason for this failure. At this point I can only suggest you try going back to the very basics of troubleshooting the problem:

    1. De-active every single plugin.
    2. Switch to a default WordPress theme like Twenty Fifteen.
    3. Test several times.

If the issue is still occurring then there is an issue with the WP core or server setup. We could try resolve from there.
