Huge-It-Slider has disappeared!

I had the Huge-IT slider plugin working fine. Now it has stopped working. It was working in conjunction with Site Origin Page Builder, so when using PB I was able to insert the Huge-IT widget into a row. Now it has stopped working, there is a sort of blank widget saying ‘missing widget’ where the old Huge-IT widget used to be. Has anyone else experienced this? I have tried deleting the Huge-IT plugin and reinstalling it, but the same thing happens. Any help appreciated! Thanks.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Joe,

This sounds like Huge IT Slider changed the name of their widget internally which means we can’t find it. Has this only just happened? Based on the plugin page it looks like there was an update yesterday so if it only just happened, I would recommend contacting the author about this issue caused by the update.

Would it be possible for you to send me an export for this widget? To do this open up the page with the widget and click layout in the Page Builder toolbar. Then click import/export and then click download. Please upload the export to a 3rd party file hosting site such as teknik.io.

    Thanks Alex

OK, here’s a link to the exported file as you requested.

Not sure it’s what you meant but let me know.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Joe,

Thanks. Can you please update to the latest version of Huge IT Slider? I ask as according to the change log (and the code of the latest version), it should work without issue now. If it doesn’t, let me know and I’ll take another look at the code itself.

Thanks Alex. This now works. I am concerned though, what if they or anyone else change their plugin again and I don't know about it until something disappears?

NB I was able to achieve a workaround on this occasion (before your advice)
whereby I simply added a text widget with the HugeIT shortcode in it. So,
it was the Siteorigin widget that actually failed to accommodate HugeIT. Do you understand?

    Hoping for the best.

    Many thanks.

    Regards

    Joe

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Joe,

    Awesome.

I would recommend testing the updated functionality after each plugin update to ensure the update went smoothly.

To clarify, the issue here is that Huge IT changed the Slider’s unique widget identifier. This is something that developers rarely if ever do without accounting for it for as it’ll break any previous usage of the widgets, be it through SiteOrigin Page Builder or through the standard WordPress interface (WP AdminAppearanceWidgets). This isn’t something we can account for and its the developers of the widget that need to handle backwards compatibility. Does make sense?
The shortcode would have worked without issue as they didn’t change the shortcode unique identifier. Does that make sense?
