How to edit homepage template?

Hi all,

I’m currently optimizing a website that runs on a Vantage-Child theme created by someone else.
The homepage is based on a page template that only allows very few functionalities.
For example, the template does not even include an option to add a text box.
Unfortunately, the SiteOrigin Page Builder also does not work for editing the homepage.
Is there a way I can edit the homepage template so that I can add functionalities that are allowed in other templates (e.g. for text pages)?
