Hello,
I would like to add a comments field at the bottom of my blog page. I have tried using Page Builder to add a widget for this. There is a “recent comments” widget, but I don’t see a way to add a field where readers can actually post their comments. I am a novice and am probably not something correctly. My website is at cherylmcalister.com. I would be grateful for instructions on how to add a comments field in the bottom footer.
Thanks very much.
Cheryl
How to add a comments field in Origami
This is our free support forum. Replies can take several days. If you need fast email support, please purchase a SiteOrigin Premium license.
I forgot to mention that it does say, “comments disabled” at the bottom of the posts page. Also, I have tried using the “more” tag in my posts to shorten them and send the reader to another page.
Sorry to annoy, but I’m working on this while waiting for a response. I removed the “recent comments” widget.
And a final note so you can help me better: Comments appear to be turned on under discussion settings, however the comment button on my dashboard has an X in it.
Nope, one more final note; sorry I didn’t get all this in one post. I have tried as many suggestions as I could find for similar problems on your support pages. In the end, it seems to be a WordPress problem. I tried the WP 2015 theme and no dialog boxes appeared in that, either.
Thanks again for any help.
Hi Cheryl
In general, WordPress themes display the comment form on single post pages, and not on blog or archive pages. To direct users to your single post pages, split post content using the More tag:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/
That’ll ensure readers need to click over to the single post page to finish reading the post, there you’ll have the comment form:

To enable or disable comments for a particular post, click the Screen Options button at the top right when editing a post, check the Discussion checkbox, then scroll down to below the Visual editor and check or un-check comments as required.
Hi Andrew,
Thanks for answering. I wrote an email to SiteOrigin that explains in more detail what I tried. Here is the list from my email:
1. I use a “more” tag in my blog posts so they start on the main blog page and finish on a single page. There is no comments box at the bottom of those single pages as there should be. Rather, it says “comments disabled” at the bottom.
2. I have made sure “comments” is activated under discussion settings. I have also checked the blog main page and made sure comments are enabled in screen options. They are also enabled for each individual post. This is a new site so there are only two posts so far.
3. I have tried switching to WordPress 15 to see if there is a contact form on that theme. There is not which makes me suspect the problem is with WordPress and not Origami.
4. In the Reading settings I have “full text” checked for articles to show in feed because I’m using the “more” tags. I tried using the “summary” setting and it didn’t make a difference.
5. I have tried disabling plugins. This didn’t help.
6. My Permalinks are set to “default.”
Sadly, after trying all this I still have a message at the bottom of my post pages that says “comments disabled” and, of course, there is no comments box.
What else can I try?
Thank you for your help.
Cheryl

Please can you confirm:
Settings > Discussion, please ensure that the following setting is checked:
“Allow people to post comments on new articles”
Yes, Andrew, it is checked.
Andrew, I fixed the problem on all but one post. Here’s how:
Went to Dashboard > All Posts > Quick Edit. Under the Tags box is a box that says, “Allow Comments.” This was not checked in two of my posts. I checked them and the comments boxes appeared! And I thought I had checked everything.
I have a new question that I will post in a new thread. Thank you for your help.
