How do I transfer assets to a child theme?
Greetings!
I have a child theme of Vantage. When I activate it, the site looks the same except for the sidebar, which is gone.
I remember reading in other support threads that one must somehow transfer menu items and other things to a child theme, but there was no explanation on how to do this in Vantage. (Incidentally, when I switched to the child theme, my main top nav menu (an Ubermenu) transferred automatically without me needing to do anything – it’s jus the sidebar that didn’t come along with).
Any tips? I don’t want to rebuild that sidebar but I will if necessary.
Thanks!

3Hi Tim
This is most likely as easy as going to Appearance > Widgets, scrolling down to inactive widgets and dragging your widgets back into place.
For reference purposes, the following usually reset when activating a child theme:
Customizer settings
Menu location assignments
Widget location assignments
For this reason I usually work off a child theme right away. Doing so means that if I need the child theme any time in the future I won’t need to redo Customizer settings etc.
Let us know how you come along :)
Your directions were perfect.
And your advice for future theme development makes a lot of sense: Child theme should be the first damn thing I do.
Next time. :-)
For sure :) Glad to hear you’re making progress. All the best.
