Hi. I noticed a zillion threads regarding how to remove the words “category archives” from the archives pages, but nothing on how to actually create the category archive separated by year > month. I don’t want the archive to display on its own page; I want there to simply be a sidebar that allows the user to click 2015 > November > “Fallout 4: subway tokens, please” and any other posts I write in the category “gaming.”
I imagine there is script that I can run which makes each category archive filter (year, month) expand when clicked. Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Jay
PS My link below will show you the widget I am currently using (the sidebar on the right). I want this to be the category year/month archive, so rather than displaying the post I want it to display the year and after it gets clicked, the month followed by the actual post.
Hey J
I recommend using this plugin and the widget it provides:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/jquery-archive-list-widget/
Hope that helps.
Hi Andrew,
Thanks for the assist. I just downloaded the plug-in and it works nicely. Check it out (same link as before).
I am a bit concerned though that with this widget the more posts I have per month, the longer the post list is going to become (unless I just have it direct the viewer to the monthly category page, in which case I’m going to have the same problem where the posts span way down beyond the bottom of the screen). Is there a way to incorporate a “next page” type of filter on this widget, so that the list for a given month only displays a few posts at a time (like the post loop plug-in does)? Does that make sense? If not then this widget is only a temporary fix as it’ll eventually lead to umanageable lists/category pages.
Thanks for your continued help!
Unfortunately, not that I know of. Once you have a lot more content you can look at other, less linear ways of getting users deeper into your posts. Perhaps the use of a tag cloud widget. Things like that.
