I have the exact same problem as this guy: https://siteorigin.com/thread/all-of-a-sudden-editing-page-builder-is-extremely-slow/
When I switch to text editor there is a zillion of these: //////////. But how can I remove them? Every time I go into text editor and then go back most of the Siteground widgets don’t look the same.
Hi Eric
We don’t recommend that you switch from Page Builder to the Text/Visual tabs for editing. The ability to switch between tabs isn’t designed for making changes. To diagnose the speed issue, try seeking out a working baseline by temporarily deactivating all non-SiteOrigin plugins. Does the issue persist in that state?
Hi Andrew,
I have already diagnosed the problem. There is about 5 000 forward slashes in the code that make the back-end of the page run slow. My issue now is how to get rid of them and still keep my siteground site intact. Is there any way I can get rid of them without switching to text editor?
Hi Eric, when you say siteground, do you mean SiteOrigin? I ask because SiteGround is a hosting company so it’s possible you could be referring to them. Please, take a screenshot of the issue, upload to imgur.com or similar and send us the link. Please, also send us a link to the same page on the front-end. Thanks.
Oh Sorry, I meant SiteOrigin.
Andrew, I don’t really think printscreens should be needed. The frontend looks just like normal, but if I switch to text editor there are few thousand foward slashes embedded in the code. You have already solved why this happens in this thread: Thread: All of a sudden Editing/Page Builder is extremely slow ?
Alex S on your staff explained it: “This sort of thing typically happens when the server is using an older version of PHP and it has Magic Quotes enabled (which automatically added a slash to quotes but isn’t smart enough to check for an already existing slash so it keeps adding it). I would recommend getting in contact with your hosting provider to double check the PHP version on the server is an actively supported version.”
My problem is: How do I get rid of the forward slashes so that the backend of my site can function like normal again, without also screwing up the front-end in the process?
Hi Eric
If you think that the originating cause of the slashes being added has been resolved, you could try recovering as follows. At SettingsPage BuilderContent disable Copy Content, save a page that’s facing this issue and then re-enable Copy Content. If you haven’t located the cause of the slashes. please, let me know as we’ll need to approach this differently.
Hi Andrew,
I tried your suggested solution. This did not remove the slashes from the code unfortunately. :(
Hi Eric, thanks for your reply. Have you located and resolved the originating issue that caused slashes to be added?
