Horrendous Google Page Speed since upgrade

Hi,

I have noticed since the upgrade 2 weeks ago that Google Page Speed is horrendous with Page Builder by SiteOrigin enabled. The score is 37/100!. When is is disabled score is 80/100.

Any ideas?

    Hi Harrogate,

That’s odd. Have you made any significant content changes since the last update? I ask as none of the changes present in the last update should have affected the page score let alone that badly. Do you have a public URL where we can take a look at what’s going on?

To clarify, disabling SiteOrigin page Builder and getting such a high score is normal as when the bulk of the page is being added by SiteOrigin page Builder, disabling it will have a large impact. Regardless, 37 shouldn’t be happening unless there’s something seriously wrong.

    Hi,

Thanks for getting back. You can try this link: https://tinyurl.com/j4aqkyv

I’m aware that there are images that need to be scaled to .png but I know that will not make a big improvement.

    Many Thanks

    Hi,

Did you recently use a cache plugin or minify plugin? If so, that would explain a large drop if you disabled either of those plugins. Sadly, those type of plugins have to be used to ensure you score highly (that, or server side caching).

I personally recommend WP Super Cache (setup guide) and Better WordPress Minify (usage guide)

Then I would recommend installing and running EWWW Image Optimizer.

How does your score look now?

    Hi,

Currently using WP Rocket 2.9.8.1 and I have installed EWWW Image Optimizer. Cleared Cache and the result is:

    Mobile: 35/100
    Desktop: 39/100

With your suggestions and WP Rocket deactivated the results are as follows:

    Mobile: 43/100
    Desktop: 47/100

    I have done more testing.

    1. Delete each plugin 1 by 1 and cleared cache
    2. Tested results after each plugin is disabled
    3. The results are poor 30/35 out of 100

    4. With all plugins disabled tested with just SiteOrigin page Builder enabled. Poor result. DEACTIVATE SiteOrigin page Builder and result 70/100 and 79/100.

It really does look like SiteOrigin page Builder is the issue

    Hi,

SiteOrigin Page Builder is adding the bulk of the content on the page you’re testing. When you remove it from the picture (and thus remove the bulk of the content), of course, you’ll receive a much better score – that’s only natural. Basically, what I’m saying is that SiteOrign Page Builder is purely structure and your content as a whole isn’t optimized which is why I was suggesting plugins that will allow for you to optimize it.

You’ll need to completely set up the instructed plugins and run them to receive a higher score. There’s nothing we can personally do to change SiteOrigin page Builder to score better as it’s not the issue.
