Homepage, columns, posts and post loop clarification

Have just started using vantage premium and the Page Builder. Your work plus support may well be the best on the Web,, in my experience. However, a little more help info would save much time.

I want to build a blog with columns similar to this one.

Homepage

[Btw, you ought to set up some sort of featured users page on your site. It will increase your exposure and that of your deserving users.]

After sifting through this forum some questions are not at all clear to me:

1. To use vantage and have three columns on the home page is it best to use Page Builder and customize it using the add row instruction, and then modify from there.

2. I want, for example, the 20 most recent posts to be added to two columns on the left and have reviews, archives, etc. in the right column.

3. I want to have the initial content of the posts showing (using post loops?) with a “continue reading link” that I do not have to insert manually every time. Is there a better way to do this?

4. Is the layout builder widget the best way to resolve these questions?

What are the steps and intermediate steps?

1. Edit home page
2. Add row
3. Add visual edit widget
4. Add post loop widget
5. Set up “continue reading” link.

Details: Is visual edit widget necessary? How to autoadd posts to different colums? How to autoadd continue reading link.

There are details missing here that need some clarification. Not even sure if this will work, or what.

I think you can save yourself and many people a lot of time if you can take a moment and just list the specific steps.

    Grid template with post loop?

Also, I have seen mention of a grid template, but do not see that or know how to use it.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Found out where the “grid template” option is. Go to:

Appearance –. Home Page –> (if you added Post Loop widget) –> Edit –. right below “Title” field there is drop-down menu with “Template” choices.

(Not sure if it shows up/is relevant anywhere else.

Now have a new issue as I continue to create a good Home Page layout using Page Builder.

Is there any way to add a sidebar to a custom home page that has been created with Page Builder?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Qualogadm

Thanks for your support, much appreciated.

We unfortunately don’t have a column based post loop template available in Vantage or in Page Builder or the Widgets Bundle. As you mentioned the Grid loop is the closest.

To add a sidebar to the home page go to Pages > Home and set the page template in the right column to Default. You will then need to continue editing your home page from Pages > Home (Page Builder tab) as saving your home page from Appearance > Home will reset the page template. This is something we’re working on.
