Home page problems after premium theme update – Vantage

My home page is displaying text that goes completely off the page to the left and right. Plus, the sidebar is gone as well. Just the home page, other pages are fine.

I recently updated the Vantage theme and I am a premium user of Vantage. If I deactivate the pagebuilder plugin, the text no longer goes off the page but the slider images stack up and there are several other problems on the page.

I am not an experienced user of WordPress or CSS so please let me know what you need to know in order to help me and I will do all I can to provide it. There are several small tweaks I did with the Custom CSS plugin to get things lined up how I wanted them but I have no idea what is causing this problem.

Thank you for your time.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Sam

    Thanks for reaching out.

Try editing the row concerned. Click the wrench icon far right, then Layout on the right > Row Layout. Is the Row Layout drop down menu set to Full Width? Make sure it’s not set to Full Width Stretched.

    Hey Andrew,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I’ve gone ahead and set the rows to Full Width like you suggested. The text seems to be aligning properly now, as well as the testimonial plugin thing at the bottom of the page.

Only thing is…the sidebar is still not there. Any ideas on that?

Sure :) To get the sidebar go to Pages > Home and set the Page Template drop down menu in the right column to Default. This will make the page title render though. We could hide that with Custom CSS.

Wow. Thanks. That got it back. Now that you’ve pointed those settings out they seem like they should have been obvious areas for me to look for changes. Of course, I probably still wouldn’t have realized they were different then what I had them set to when the site went together. Either way, thanks for the direction.

I don’t mind the page title being there so that won’t be necessary.

Now, while I have you here. :) Can I expect these sorts of things needing to be changed back to how I had them next time the theme updates?

Thank you very much for your time and help.

    Hi, I Work Here

Glad to hear you’re making progress.

Settings like this definitely shouldn’t shift during theme or plugin updates. Apologies for the hassle, I’m not sure what happened.

Moving forward you’ll need to edit your home page from Pages > Home and not from Appearance > Home Page. There is a small bug present in that if you save from Appearance > Home Page the Full Width No Title page template will be used and not the Default page template.

    Thanks :)
