Hero Plugin with video BG

Hi siteorigin,

Well, I have spent enough time trying to get a video BG to run using the hero plugin.
Can you guys please do a quick tutorial vid on how to use that option.

Unless you already have one made please reply with a link.
btw I have tried Background Videos for SiteOrigin Page Builder
this is limited no loop, no autoplay etc…

thank you

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Al Roth,

Please open the Hero widget you wish to add a video background too. Open the Frame which will have the video applied to it and open the Background settings group. Find the Background Videos section and Add which will add a new video background to that frame (only one video is used, the rest of the videos will only appear if the other video fails to load – they are fallbacks). Set it up as desired and you should be good to go.

    Hi Alex,

It looks like you did not look at the page. the background video does not work. I will leave the test page up for another day and maybe if you have time. you can take a look and see why it does not work. it was kinda of why I wanted to see you do a fast vid to show it works.

anyway. I really like your plugins and app. most of that new blog is built with them. here is the link again if you want to spend any time on it.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Al,

Oh. Sorry, I thought that was as desired due to your wording. (that may sound strange but honestly, stranger things have happened)

Okay, so the issue here is that WordPress doesn’t automatically autoplay oEmbeded videos. We’re looking at possible ways of avoiding this but in the meantime, you’ll want to use a direct (ideally self-hosted) video. Sorry mate.

    LOL hey no worries.
I loaded a self-hosted video. There is now an error in the debug window.
take a look this may be coming from the theme. but I am not good enough with how wp is built to see what is throwing the error. If you have time to look. not a super big issue. but would be nice to know why and if there is a fix.

Uncaught (in promise) DOMException: The play() request was interrupted by a call to pause().

Here is the direct link to self-hosted video.

    and the test page again

thanks mate for looking at this.

    Hey Alex,

a little follow up on this. from doing some research the error is a chrome issue. this works fine in FF.
Here is a write up from google.

    https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2017/06/play-request-was-interrupted#fix

Now just so you know what I was trying to originally achieve. you can load this page in FF. it pauses in chrome but you can look if you want in chrome. there are controls. I used a plugin built for SO. called Video
Backgrounds for SiteOrigin Page Builder. which I will assume you have seen. it is so close to being a rock solid plugin for background vids but is what it is for now.

with this plugin, I got what I wanted, mostly, with a little tweaking. I turned off loop and muted (deleted) and made the controls a little bigger.

you will see this is a nice intro to the page and its content. should make you want to go to Vegas.
FYI I may not ever try this at home again. was a pain LOL. here is the post for your viewing pleasure. see you on the strip.
FYI-2 I love wordpress >>>some of the time.
90% of this page is all SO plugins. turned out ok. maybe a little tweaking to make it amazing. some of the row content is too wide. but will work on it to make it pop more. hope you like it boss.
