Hero background video doesn’t show on phone or tablet. Please help!

My site begins with a SiteOrigin Hero widget with a background video playing behind a logo. I’m really happy with how it looks on a computer, but for some reason the background video isn’t visible when I view my site on a phone or tablet. For various reasons, I would like to keep the BG video on this widget rather than posting the video some other way. That said, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Ptchomey,

To clarify, what device are you using to check if your videos are appearing on mobile?
Do you have a public URL where we can take a look at what’s going on?

I use my iphone 6+ to check my site's functionality and have asked others with different iphones/mobiles to check as well.

The video background that plays on my site banner *(www.seanrohani.com
<http://www.seanrohani.com>)* works fine on a computer. I previously used the SitOrigin Hero widget, but now I use the "Background Videos for Site
Origin Page Builder" plugin because it seems to accomplish the same thing more efficiently.

That said, neither BG video option worked on a mobile device, until I used a plugin called "Fast Velocity Minify" which speeds up my site performance by combining CSS & Javascript files into groups of files, while attempting to use the least amount of files as possible.

A side effect was that it makes my *autoplaying video BG* visible on mobile devices, but it also *negatively effected the layout* of my site on all devices and wasn't compatible with some other plugins that I'm using, so I have since deactivated that plugin and temporarily put a still header image for mobile devices in the meantime.

Please let me know if you need anything else. Thanks so much!

Hi Ptchomey,

Okay so I’ve had a look and the video works for me but there’s an image (which is likely the video cover) partially covering the video. I’m not too sure what’s adding that so I would recommend reaching out to the developers of that plugin to see why the image may be added on top of the video on mobile.

I put that image myself to show only on mobile devices because the BG doesn’t work on my mobile device. What type of phone did you test the site on? As I said, my bg only worked in conjunction with a plugin that I’ve since had to turn off.

The developer of the plugin that creates the BG video I believe is
SiteOrigin.

My hunch is that it may work on some phones but doesn’t tend to work on iOS devices, but I can’t settle for it to work on some phones and not others,
as this is my professional site and helps me attract work. Any further help would be greatly appreciated!

In addition to my last email responding to your email, I've attached a screenshot of how my website banner looks when I use my iPhone 6+. There is no video playing in the background even though the URL has been set on the background video settings of the row.

Hi, I Work Here

Hi Ptchomey,

The video background plugin you’re using isn’t by us. I would recommend contacting them through their support forums.

I tested your website using a Google Pixel and an iPhone 8. Are you using the latest iOS/Safari version? I ask because Apple (and Google) both just recently introduced autoplay support (they previously intentionally disabled it for performance/bandwidth reasons) for videos so if you’re using an older version of iOS it would make sense for it to not work – this is unavoidable as there was previously a hard disable for this functionality and this disable cannot be bypassed so there will, sadly, be some devices that simply cannot play the video.

I haven't changed anything, but now the SiteOrigins Widgets Bundle plugin doesn't let me edit my page. I've attached a screenshot of what my page editor now looks like with it activated. The text/visual buttons don't work and none of my rows are visible.

When I deactivate it, the page editor looks normal, but my entire page relies on this plugin. Any idea how to fix it?

Hi, I Work Here

Hi Ptchomey,

That sounds like one of your plugins is conflicting with our plugin since the latest WordPress update. Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

If you aren’t using a SiteOrigin theme, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.
