I have some text below the banner slider I want a different text color and background color and want it up against the banner no space between the banner and color and have had nothing but trouble with it.

I would add this text using a SiteOrigin Headline widget (added by the SIteOrigin Widgets Bundle – once installed, please navigate to WP AdminPluginsSiteOrigin Widgets and activate the Headline widget). This will allow you to adjust the margin and line-height to allow for the widget to touch the slider.
