Header Widgets No longer Show Up and Logo Question

Hi, I’m using the Premium theme and I’m not sure how I broke it – but I can’t add widgets to the sidebar or the header. To test, I loaded a fresh WordPress with the free theme and head widgets show up. Also – whenever I edit the page from the customizer, I have to update the page for the changes to take effect.

I also made the logo png 1080×300 trying to center the logo, after figuring out I couldn’t extend the logo to the far left of the page. Is there a way to put my logo all the way to the left side of the screen? Even beyond the menu?

Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi David,

    Sorry for the delay here.

    For your first issue, it’s possible this is a plugin conflict. Can you try disable all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if that fixes the issue? If it does, you can reenable your plugins one by one and see when the issue starts happening again. This will help you diagnose which is causing the problem.

    For your second question. You should be able to achieve this with some custom CSS.

    #masthead .hgroup {
       margin-left: 0px !important;
       margin-right: 0px !important;
    }

    Let me know if that does the trick.

    I removed some custom css I had forgotten about. That fixed the widget issue. However the tagline isn't showing up at all. I have disabled all plugins and only reactivated Site origin plugins. I think it's the
    .support-text that is missing. I still have to update page manually from
    Pages to see any change, not sure why it stopped being immediate. I even changed text in logo tagline to refresh database if that's where those values are stored. To no avail. I will leave site in SiteOrigin only mode till I see a response here.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi David

    To confirm, Vantage doesn’t render the site tagline. You can insert header text (.support-text) from Appearance > Theme Settings > Logo > Header Text OR you can delete that and manage the same area from Appearance > Widgets > Header. Hopefully I’m with you there.

    The Vantage logo is rendered at 1080px maximum so even if we allow the logo to spread 100% width, the logo image itself can’t by default be more than 1080px wide. Hope that explains things a bit more.

    Andrew,

    I got the tagline mixed up – sorry, I meant the header text that I was editing from Vantage Theme Settings -> Logo. That no longer shows up no matter what I do, and it does appear I can add my own with a header widget
    – so thank you for clearing that up for me.

    So it appears I have broken two things:

    1. The ability to add Header Text (that appears next to your logo)
    2. The ability to use Side Bar Widgets.

    My site at http://www.dricetech.com currently has a Category widget added to
    Sidebar, Footer, and Header.

    Any ideas on what could be broken?

    I have tried with all widgets disabled, with only site-origin widgets enabled, and whatever there might be in between.

    At this point I'm ready to rebuild if there isn't an easy fix. Is there an easy way to dump my pages/posts and pull them into a fresh install with a fresh vantage theme?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Ahh with you now. Thanks for sending through all the additional info.

    http://www.dricetech.com/technology-blog/

    I can see widgets in your header, sidebar and footer now. So everything is looking normal on my side. Are you not seeing the widgets I’m seeing?

    If you need us to take a look you could email a set of temporary login details through to:

    Yeah, the technology-blog is where I actually just thought that side-bar widgets weren’t supported in the Vantage theme. So I used Page builder to build 3 column rows and made my own :). This doesn’t scale well though.

    I have sent a set of temporary admin logins as I’m baffled lol.

    Thanks

    Did you receive the two e-mails I sent?

    isn’t getting pulled in.

    I had my Aha! Moment. I searched through the a lot of wordpress php and vantage php and then through the database looking for references to turning the widget on, not much luck there.

    But, if I goto Appearance -> Home page, and turn off Custom Page in the top left – I can see the widgets on the front page. However – it also makes my site look horrible.

    So turning on Custom Home Page from Appearances breaks the widget and the custom text at the top next to . It looks like I could add some custom code to functions.php but I really don’t want to break anything further.

    I confirmed this by doing the same thing on a brand new wordpress install with the Vantage theme installed – non premium version.

    Is there a simple way around this issue?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Thanks for the long wait here.

    Everything looks ok to me. If I put a Button (PB) widget in the header it renders there. The social widget you have in the header isn’t showing up because no data has been added to it yet.

    The sidebar is the same, check my demo page here: http://www.dricetech.com/demo/. To confirm, sidebar widgets only appear when the Default page template is in use. The page template drop down menu can be found in the right column when editing pages. Appearance > Home Page uses the Page Builder Home template, which has the same characteristics as the Full Width Page Template. You could change the home page template from Pages > Home.

    If you need to control which widgets show up on certain pages, try out the Jetpack Widget Visibility module, part of the Jetpack plugin.

    Okay, so that’s solved. I was going to add a child-theme and attempt to modify the template and see if I could arrange it in there so it would be static across all pages – but I broke something horribly and had to delete my front page and start over…so no more of that.

    Will this be a feature later? I did some playing around and noticed that the widget just hops in on the right anyways – I’ll just manually add that in for pages if it’s needed.

    I suppose all that screen real estate to the right is needed to keep the page responsive – is that correct?

    Thanks

    Hi, I Work Here

    I’m almost following you there. What kind of header widget layout are you looking to achieve?
