Header Padding is Ignored, and two places to upload a logo (hummingbird)

Notice: This thread is over two years old; the information may be outdated. Please consider creating a new thread if you require free support. If you have an active SiteOrigin Premium license, you can email our premium support desk at [email protected].

In Appearance >> Customise >>Theme Design >> General there is an option for Header Padding – and if I change this it does exactly what I expect it to – reduce the padding above and below the logo in the Masthead.

However, once I save and publish this setting is ignored.

I have overcome the problem with custom CSS but really I shouldn’t have to:

body.responsive.layout-full #page-wrapper .full-container {
padding-top: 10px;
padding-bottom: 10px;
}

Also in Appearance >> Customise >> Site Identity there is a place to upload a Logo, and also in Appearance >> Theme Settings >>Logo you can upload a logo (and a retina one) – I’m confused as to what the difference is between the two – is this a bug?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Ian,

    Regarding your first issue. That shouldn’t be required. Do you have a public URL where we can take a look at what’s going on? If you need to keep this URL private from other users, just select “Private Reply” on the bottom right of the comment box.

    It sounds like you’re using one of older premium themes as the theme settings you’re referring to have actually been moved to the customizer. If so, could you please send us an email at [email protected] and we’ll help you with updating to the latest version. Please reference this thread.

    Regardless, the Site Identity settings group is a WordPress defined settings group. It’s not something we can really affect so we wouldn’t recommend using that settings group outside of the site icon and text fields. In other words, you should be using Theme Settings logo field.

    Hi Alex

    I am using Customizer as stated above – Appearance >> Customise >>Theme Design >> General – I am using the updated version of Vantage Version: 1.5.4 with the premium plugin.

    Appearance >> Customise >>Theme Design >> General is where the setting is – in Customiser >> Theme Design >>General

    As I stated, I can change it using customizer and see the changes take place, but once I publish I can’t – I’ll do another post where you can see the website address.

    I get the second point – though I noticed in North you have managed to remove most of the options under Site Identity

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Ian,

    Ah, you dropped the customize at one point and directly went to theme settings so I was under the impression you were using Vantage 2.4.4 still. Sorry about that!

    The issue here is that that Hummingbird is outputting after the customizer CSS.

    Please check your hummingbird settings and try and adjust when it outputs or alternatively, get it to minify inline styling.

    It’s still in Vantage mainly due to a legacy reason. North was released long after this setting so it doesn’t need to maintain the field.

    No Worries – I hadn’t realised I’d dropped the Customise – my bad.

    Not sure I really understand the above – only just starting to get my head round minification – Hummingbird doesn’t seem to have a lot of settings. Does Site Origin have a similar plugin – if I can keep everything under one roof it will be easier.

    In the meantime I will contact WPMU Dev to see if they have a suggestion

    Cheers

    Ian

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Ian,

    We don’t have a cache plugin at the moment – sorry mate. Another user reported this issue yesterday (which is when I made the above image) and managed to resolve it via a setting. They stated they changed when it was being output. I’ll reach out to them to see if I can get more specific instructions to pass onto to you.

    Here’s what’s happening: the customizer CSS is output and then the theme CSS is output, thus overriding your customizer CSS. It’s meant to be the theme styling first and then the customizer CSS.

    In other words, it’s being output in the wrong order.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Ian,

    Oh, forgot to mention that they said: “I moved it to the header and turned off combine and that did the trick :)”. It might be a good idea to get in contact with WPMU Dev to see what they say.

  8. 8 years, 9 months ago Ian Watts

    Ha ha – I thought you’d knocked up the graphic pretty quick – I’ve already contacted them so I will see what they come up with. Trouble is I’m not sure what I’m moving where. I think I’ll wait until they get back to me.

    Cheers

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Ian,

    :)

    Worse comes to worse, you could always temporarily disable Hummingbird until you hear back from them.

    By the way, as you’re a premium user, you’re entitled to priority email support. If you would like to make use of that, please follow the instructions found on this page. Please reference this thread and include your SiteOrigin order key in the email.

    I think the reason I didn’t use premium support is that I haven’t got the email with my order key on it and couldn’t find it on the website.

    Cheers Anyway

    Well it doesn’t say much for Hummingbird – I disabled minification and my page load speed went up???

    I think I’ll leave it off until I know what I’m doing more.

    Disabling Minification worked, and the customizer is working as it should. Thanks for all your help

    Cheers

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Ian,

    Oh, that’s odd. I can definitely tell you’re a premium user. Do you see any orders on Dashboard page? If not, try emailing us at [email protected] regardless and I should be able to detect your order key (I can’t do it via the website).

    I’ve found it – thanks for the link. I’ll email it to myself :-)
