Hi Angelaread
Thanks for reaching out.
You can select your home page slider from Appearance > Theme Settings > Home. Here is more on that:
https://siteorigin.com/vantage-documentation/getting-started/slider/
If you’d like to manage your home page with Appearance > Home, turn it ON using the toggle switch at the top. If not, turn Appearance > Home Page OFF and go to Settings > Reading. There you can enable the setting: Front page displays your latest posts.
Hope that helps.
You don’t seem to understand. Every time I tried to edit the home page it creates a new page called Home Page.
I want to add widgets to the home page and I can’t. I turned custom on off doesn’t seem to make a difference. Is there some way we can connect today through a call. I made many sites with Vantage and haven’t had this trouble before.
Hi Angelaread
Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look? You can create the account with the following email address:
[email protected]
Just navigate to Users > Add New in your WordPress admin. Enter siteorigin for the username and [email protected] for the email address. Make sure you’ve selected Administrator for the role and enabled the “Send Password” field so we receive the details.
Once we’re finished taking a look, you can delete this account. We’ll let you know when to do that.

If you use Appearance > Home Page then a page will be created at Pages called Home. This is necessary to comply with WordPress guidelines. For example, if you switched themes, you’d need a home page to move with you to the next theme.
Are you asking to add widgets to your home page but still keep the post loop?
Hi Andrew I’m going to set up this account for you. I’m having issues with the home page not matter what I do.
I want the front page to look like the the opening page with the sidebar and I want to add sliders and videos and other content When I go to pages to edit the page a different page views without the sidebar or post. I’ve tried everything you mentioned but everything disappears. At a lost. Just want to be able to edit the page I see when I first open like I always when I use vantage. If I go to custom page I loose this page that I want to edit. HELP. Everything else I solved but not this which is major!
Yes that’s it exactly I want to add widget and keep the post to that page
And keep the sidebar
Here is a quick mockup: http://www.fotosuite.com/. You’re welcome to change it back. Steps:
1. Settings > Reading, set Home as Static Home Page.
2. Pages > Home, chose page Meta Slider from right column drop down menu.
3. Clicked over the Page Builder tab, clicked Prebuilt and cloned the home page.
Hope that helps get you going.
To add your post loop just add the Post Loop widget in Page Builder and set the template in the Post Loop widget to Blog.
Hi Andrew,
Sorry must be the end of the day and not thinking. The page that is now running http://www.fotosuite.com
is how I want it to be but of course I need to edit it. I will need to add further widgets are you saying that this page can’t be edited that I will have to do it through the steps you pointed out or can I edit this page now? If I can edit this page where can I edit it as I do not see this preview in pages?
The home page can be edited now from Pages > Home, click on the Page Builder tab.
The steps outlined are the steps I took to set that up.
Thanks :)
Thanks Andrew for clarifying that . Will see how it works for me tomorrow. Thanks so much!
Andrew I tried to clone the home page so I could keep the side bar and add widgets it to it like you described but when I go to pages click on the page builder tab and click prebuilt this is what I get. There are no Pages with Page Builder content to clone.
Did I miss a step. Do I have to go to do this first 1. Settings > Reading, set Home as Static Home Page.
2. Pages > Home, chose page Meta Slider from right column drop down menu.
3. Clicked over the Page Builder tab, clicked Prebuilt and cloned the home page.
There was no need to clone, I setup everything for you. You just needed to go to Pages > Home, click on the Page Builder tab and start editing. The steps I outlined were the steps I took to create your home page.
So starting from where we are now:
1. In any WordPress site you can set the static home page from Settings > Reading. That’s a necessary step. Set your static home page to “Home”.
From there you can go to Pages > Home and start editing in Page Builder, no need to clone, there should be content there already.
Summary:
a. In WordPress, by default, Settings > Reading is set to “Front page displays latest posts”.
b, From Settings > Reading you can set any of your pages to be your static home page.
c. You can use our Page Builder plugin on any of your pages to add widgets to the page area.
Hope that helps :)
Okay Thanks Andrew but I don’t see the side panel on this new page
Are you not seeing the sidebar on the front end or the backend of the site?
If the page template is set to Default then the sidebar will display.
The sidebar is managed from Appearance > Widgets > Sidebar.
I’m seeing two pages of home again. One that is editable with no sidebar and the other that has the sidebar but is not editable in home page on pages
I just want to add content and be able to edit the content in pages but that is not happening.
Keep making multiple home pages
Not quite following. Under Pages in WordPress there is only one page called Home. All you need to do to get that display as your home page is to go to Settings > Reading as set it as your static home page.
Don’t use the Appearance > Home Page shortcut, it will drop the sidebar.
On any given page, like Home, you can either work in the Visual/Text tabs. That’s the regular WordPress editor OR you can work in our Page Builder tab. You can’t work in both.
Not working tried everything will not restore page either. Andrew I have worked in Vantage before but I keep getting two pages. Ive lost all content now and have no side bar. I continue to be listed. Usually I can just edit in pages home. I tried to revise to last nights page and it won’t. I back to drawing board again.
I’ll restore the home page for you now. One moment.
If you take a look right now:
http://www.fotosuite.com/
Before I change it. All that is, is content being moved from Page Builder back into the Visual tab. All Page Builder formatting is lost. It’s an expected result if you move over from Page Builder to the Visual tab.
Here is the default Vantage home page:
http://www.fotosuite.com/
Complete with sidebar because I’ve set the page template “Default”.
Okay Andrew page is messed up compared to yesterday but I think I can fix it. I want to build in page builder. Are you saying that even if I go to visual tab content will be lost. Why do I still have two home pages. Everytime I edit in pages I get two pages.
Don’t also know why the content changed
I, unfortunately, don’t understand what you mean when you say you have two home pages. Can you try explaining that further?
Do you see the two pages?
The page you had yesterday was:
Settings > Reading > Front page displays latest posts.
The page we have there now is the default/demo Vantage home page. If you want to insert posts via Page Builder you can do so using the Post Loop widget.
Yes, I’m saying that if, at Pages > Home, you click the button in Page Builder that says “Switch to editor”. All Page Builder content will move out of Page Builder and into the Visual tab and Page Builder formatting will be lost. On any given post or page you need to choose between the regular WordPress editor or Page Builder.
Ok, you’re asking about your menu. Just go to Appearance > Menus, create a custom menu and save it to theme’s primary menu location. Ensure that the setting that automatically adds top level pages to the menu is not enabled.
Here is how to manage your custom menu:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
Go to Appearance > Menus, select Primary Menu from the drop down list available then Select.
Go down to the bottom of the page, note the setting: Automatically add new top-level pages to this menu. Disable that setting. Next, remove the last Home page item added to the menu.
Winning?
Andrew can I now add the post to this page with out losing the page. I need the post, Don’t want them in a loop
Loop is just a programming term. Go to Pages > Home and insert a Post Loop widget. Select Blog from the template drop down menu within the Post Loop widget.
Andrew I can’t thank you enough for being patient with me. I’m finally at the starting place I need to be.
Thank you. You have made my day!
Really glad to hear we’ve made progress. Appearance > Menus was the missing link :) Glad we could help.
All the best with your site.
