Hamburger not visible on mobiles, says Google

By Jessop, 5 years ago. Last reply by Alex S, 5 years ago.

Sure enough, I now see that I have to swipe to the left to bring the hamburger into view. However, the main body of the site fits nicely to the mobile screen.

Can I correct this so the hamburger is immediately visible, please?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Jess,

    I’ve had a look at your website and unfortunately, I can’t seem to replicate this issue – I tried replicating this issue with a Pixel 2 XL and an iPhone 8. Can you please show me a screenshot of what you see when you first load your page and a screenshot of the reported Google error – which tool are you specifically using?

    Please note that we’re currently unable to process attachments so you’ll need to upload the screenshots to a third party image hosting site like Imgur or vgy.me.

    Alex

    A screen shot from my Samsung Galaxy A8 phone (after I swiped it to the right), is now on https://vgy.me/Ik9mg6.jpg

    Without swiping the mobile screen, I can’t see the hamburger. The same happens when I view the website with the phone turned on its side.

    Google said:

    Search Console has identified that your site is affected by 1 new Mobile Usability related issue. This means that Mobile Usability may be negatively affected in Google Search results. We encourage you to review and consider fixing this issue.

    New issue found: Content wider than screen”

    I have tested the website on several of the free mobile test sites on the internet and there was no problem!

    Except that Google drew it to my attention, saying ‘Content is wider than screen’, I would blame the settings on my phone. And, yes, I did check those settings to see if it was possible to alter this.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Jess,

    Thanks. The menu will always be the full width of the page and isn’t the direct cause of this issue. Instead, the two emails you’ve added to the page are. I know that may sound really weird but a very long word can cause the page to extend larger than the width of the device. To avoid this, please open the SteOrigin Editor widget used to add the emails on your homepage and head over to the widget styles sidebar. Open the Attributes settings group and add the following CSS to your CSS Styles field:

    white-space: pre-line;
        word-break: break-all;

    Save. How does that look?

    Thank you, Alex. That did it and I will remember that tip for the future.
