Google Maps Widget Not Working

By bunky, 8 years ago. Last reply by Alex S, 7 years ago.

Google Maps now requires an API key to be used. To create an API key please navigate to either this page for a dynamic map or this page for a static map.

Once you’ve generated the API, simply add it to your Google Maps widget.

If adding an API key doesn’t help, do you have a public URL where we can take a look at what’s going on? If you need to keep this URL private from other users, just select “Private Reply” on the bottom right of the comment box.

Hi i have just had to deactivate wp google maps plugin because it was conflicting with the standard wp customizer ,wouldn’t let me save any changes, i think its a wp google maps plugin problem just deactivate it for now or find another map plugin.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. But I wonder if others are having a problem with the plug-in or just me. I’m trying to finish the site and really need some feed back from one of the moderators.

Hi,

I got the same issue: http://diebold-friseur.de/anfahrt-kontakt/

It appeared after the WP-Update to 4.5.3.

I use the PlugIn within my theme “Create” from Themetrust.

Regards,
Kai

Thank you Kai. That helps immensely. I’ve tried other plug ins and none seem to work. Now google wants a API key. It’s very frustrating.

Hi, I Work Here

Hi Bunky,

This is due to a Google update that requires API keys to be used from now on. For more information please refer to this post.

Awkwardly, we weren’t aware of this change as it literally happened on the same day we released 1.6. Basically, to resolve this issue you’re going to have to add a Google Maps API key to your SiteOrigin Google Maps widget. In the next version, which should hopefully be released very soon, we’re looking to enforce the API key requirement. :(

To create an API key please navigate to this page and click the blue “Get a Key” button and follow the prompts.

Please note that if you’re using the ThemeTrust fork (a version based on our code but not actively developed by us) of SiteOrigin Page Builder we’ll be unable to help you with this issue due to the vastly different codebases.

Well thanks for the update Alex. That really is upsetting as it will delay my site completion. I’m looking forward to the release of the new site origin google maps widget. You guys are truly amazing. Thanks all for the assistance and update.

Hi, I Work Here

Hi Bunky,

Just to clarify, this isn’t something we can “fix” – just enforce. This is a Google change and this is something we have no control over. Basically, what I’m saying is, you can use the widget in the current state right now as long as you add an API key. This is now a requirement by Google.

To me this now looks like a dublicated thread to mine: “Site Origin Maps does not show map in interactive mode”. Especialy because Flogaus has the same problem then me. For a blank example site of the problem see:

http://www.durato.de/wp/?page_id=4

Certainly the key I am using is younger then the 22.6.2016. So it is ruled by the new google policys.

8. 8 years, 8 days ago i2000s

@Detlef Müller-Solger, which widget were you using to make the Google map work? Mine didn’t find any way other than static maps to show an interactive map… Thanks!

Hi, I Work Here

Hi I2000s,

He’s using the SiteOrigin Google Maps widget. If only the static map is working you likely only have the static libraries enabled for your API key. Please navigate to this page and create an API key with the Maps JavaScript API enabled. Then, switch your API key over to the newly created one.

Hi,
I encountered the same problem and in my sites wasn’t displayed the Google map.
I verified that it is a change in the Google API policies: in practice some APIs, that were previously activated automatically, now must be activated manually.

1) Open Google Developers Console
2) Click on the Credentials tab on the left menu
3) Click on the blue Create credentials button -> API key -> Restrict key
(not necessary but recommended for site with high traffic, over 2500 request a day **)
4) Copy and save the key
5) Open the Library on the main, left menu and find the Google Maps APIs list
6) Click all of the following APIs, and then activate them by using the Activate button on the top of the screen:
Google Maps JavaScript API, Google Static Maps API, Google Maps Embed API, Google Maps Geocoding API (one by one)
7) Then paste the API key into the widget.

**(Optionally, if you want to protect your API key, choose the HTTP referrers (web sites) option and add your domain in these two formats: *.mydomain.com/* and mydomain.com/*)

Now all the siteorigin google maps widgets in my sites returned to work correctly.

Thanks for your work. Bye

Hello,

Same issue for me.
Plugin stopped to work few days ago.
I tried to set the API key as indicated above.
It does not work up to now.
May be some time needed to set apprropriate authorisation on google side.
Let’s wait & see.

regards

lpe

Ok seems to work now but I had to change the address.

Many thanks to diginetwork and also to you for your work.

Hello,

I have a similar problem: all maps have disappeared.

I have tried enabling APIs manually, it didn’t help.

Also, API settings have disappeared from the widget.
No API settings

I’m also experiencing problems with SiteOrigin Slider widget that has stopped showing in some of the pages.

The possible reason could be updating WordPress to 4.7 version, that’s where all bugs have started to appear I think…

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Hi, I Work Here

Hi Gleb,

Unfortunately, that’s a third party widget and I’m not really familiar with it. I would recommend getting in contact with the developers for support.

Could you clarify what version of SiteOrigin Page Builder you’re using? (you can find this by navigating to WP Admin > Plugins > Installed Plugins) Ideally, please include a screenshot of it.

13. 7 years, 9 months ago gleb

Hi Alex,

Thanks for a quick reply. I didn’t knew some widgets are third party.
How can I contact them?

Here is the screenshot you’ve asked:

Hi, I Work Here

Hi Gleb,

Thanks. Just wanted to confirm your WordPress version – it’s all up to date.

I’m unsure. I would search your plugin list for a plugin with a similar name to the widget – look for thim.

Regarding the slider issue, I can’t really handle that in this thread (you’ll need to open a new thread) but it sounds like a plugin conflict. For reference, here’s the typical plugin conflict test:

Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

If you aren’t using a SiteOrigin theme, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

Alex,

You are right, the plugin is a third party one, it just looked so similar to yours that I’ve forgot it is not part of SiteOrigin. I’ll check out this problem with them.

A new thread for Sliders bus is already open. I have described the problem in detail there.
This one is a SiteOrigin Slider widget, no third parties :)

Thank you a lot!

Hi Guys

I'm a premium subscriber and want to add vantage premium to another site.
How do I do it?

I have my receipt number.

• 7 years, 8 months ago Alex S
Hi, I Work Here

Hi Bunky,

Vantage Premium requires a manual install now. To do this you’ll need to obtain a copy of Vantage premium which can be done by contacting premium support or by filling out this form. Once you have a copy of the latest version, please navigate to WP AdminAppearanceThemes and change to a non-Vantage theme, then delete Vantage. Click Add NewUpload Theme and upload/activate the provided version. Please navigate to WP AdminAppearanceCustomize, Theme SettingsPremium and input your premium code.

By the way, as you’re a premium user, you’re entitled to priority email support. If you would like to make use of that, please follow the instructions found on your Page: Dashboard. Please reference this thread and include your SiteOrigin order key in the email.

Hi Alex,

Can you help me with a quick question. I’m building a couple of new sites and for some reason forget a lot of what I need to do with vantage themes.

I want to get rid of the black above my logo. I thought it was part of the header but its not. Here is the website please tell me how to rid the black about Go2 Electric.

http://www.go2electricianstoronto.com

I’ve done http://www.acandfurnace.com <http://www.acandfurnace.com> and didn’t have this issue. It must be something in the setup but I just forgot.

Hi, I Work Here

Hi Bunky,

Ideally, in the future, could you please either contact premium support Page: Dashboard or create a new thread? Using this thread for an unrelated issue/question makes it harder for people with similar issues/questions to find answers. With that said, I’m able to response this time.

That’s actually present due to an issue with the coupon creator pro plugin – it’s actually an error message. To resolve this issue I would recommend temporarily disabling that plugin and reporting this issue to the plugin developers. Another option, due to the not so serious nature of the error (although I might be wrong), would be to disable WP_DEBUG which will require editing your wp-config.php. This will allow you to continue using the plugin while waiting for a response from the developers.

18. 7 years, 8 months ago bunky

Hi Alex

I'm puzzled by two things you suggested. One, I purchased vantage premium so I've always got quick support.

With regards to the resolution issue you suggested I don't have this problem with my other sites that use coupon creator. http://Www.acandfurnace.com

I think it's the border issue. But I could be wrong.

Please take another peek to be certain we are talking about the same thing.
Also if you wish for me to purchase additional premium service just let me know. I'm fine with that as I need the tech support.

Ron

• 7 years, 8 months ago Alex S
Hi, I Work Here

Hi Bunky,

You do not need to purchase an additional service. I’m just suggesting you’ll get faster support via email as we don’t really have a way of tracking premium users on the forums so it’s not really easy for us to tell if you’re a premium user or not unless we already know (I only know due to the previous posts in this thread).

Regardless, you can see the error at the top of the page by selecting the text at the top of the page. For reference, here’s a screenshot.

Please try temporarily disabling the coupon creator pro plugin to see if this error disappears. I’m unsure why this issue is present on this site but not on the other site, although I suspect it’s due to having WP_DEBUG disabled on the other site.

19. 7 years, 8 months ago bunky

Hi Alex

I'll purchase the extra service later today as it has additional addons that might be useful.

Question. How do I disable the wp debug you mentioned.

Ron

• 7 years, 8 months ago Alex S
Hi, I Work Here

Hi Bunky,

Thank you for your continued support! :)

To disable WP_DEBUG you need to edit wp-config.php which requires using FTP. If you need assitaince with doing this, please contact your hosting provider.

Please connect to your website via FTP and navigate to the base directory of your WordPress directory. Open wp-config.php in a text editor and set WP_DEBUG from TRUE to FALSE. Please save and upload the edited file and you’ll be good to go.
