Full Screen Image Size readjusted/distorted since upgrade/update

I upgraded Vantage and WP also to 4.1.1.
All my images were sized (cumbersome work) & set to align when clicked open to full screen size.
After the upgrade the images are ‘squashed’ a tad to the top left hand corner, in other words there is now space showing at the bottom and at the RHS of the image – so images do not open and align full size now.
Takes the shine from the website – when open the images look a lot more un professional & amateurish now – I have lots of images/screens I need to open and align full screen.
It looks like the parameters for full screen image size using vantage have been altered/increased .
What do you suggest I should do, can you advise what occurred so that I might be able in future to note the new full screen size for images to align those to full screen. Otherwise I guess its rework the previous images, to test and find the optimal full screen size again. .Thanks.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Seamus

Sorry to hear about this. It might be a quick fix. Can you please indicate a link to a specific page and let us know one image we can look at to see this problem?

    Thanks

  2. 9 years, 6 months ago Seamus Fleming

I set up a new link as it may be an important issue for other more important sites than mine
    Sure Andrew
    Example – go to
    http://fkancestry.com/gl2-william-jeremiah-oleary/

Then the image in the section
Family Tree: GL2 William ‘Jeremiah’ O’Leary

What was a full screen is now gapped/squeezed to the top left hand corner with space on the bottom light hand corner ..

    Hi, I Work Here

Hopefully I’m following. When I click on that image I get taken to the following link in a new tab. The image is full screen width:

    http://fkancestry.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/WilJLBP1.jpg

  4. 9 years, 6 months ago Seamus Fleming

Sure. Thanks Andrew. That’s the page, up until I upgraded/updated the image content fitted exactly to the page full screen. Now U have the white space at the bottom and the right side. So in effect the content on all images is smaller as a ‘buffer’ space at the base and RHS has been created for all images that was not there before. 1750/750 px fitted full screen before, it seems as if the full screen allows for a lager image now ? since the upgrade/update -So U get the visual now that the image is off centre as well as being smaller and more difficult to read. No idea why this happened ere.

    Hi, I Work Here

Here is how things look on my side. Quick confirmation, are we looking at the same thing?

  6. 9 years, 6 months ago Seamus Fleming

Yes indeed Andrew. There is a new 10% gap at the base and a 5% gap on the rhs. While image looks full screen – it has been ‘pushed’ to top left hand corner so a gap has emerged on the bottom and on the right so the image has moved from its central point in other words. Image seems smaller as well. sale for all images when clicked now… am I making sense Andrew … ?

  7. 9 years, 6 months ago Seamus Fleming

I am certain this is the case cos I spent a while testing to make sure images looked centred on full screen previous…

  8. 9 years, 6 months ago Seamus Fleming

If U look at the family tree image at the base of the fleming family page
    http://fkancestry.com/fleming-2/
and click that – it fits perfect now – before it was too wide – but I knew that- as the px size was 1850 by 850 = – so all in all it tells me that the prior full centred images 1750/750 are now left top aligned with smaller content …so content looks smaller on page

    Hi, I Work Here

There isn’t any control over the way the image renders there. That’s the browser loading an image. Try this out as a test. Download that image to your desktop, now go to File > Open File in Chrome or your preferred browser. Put that tab next to the tab that you get open when clicking on the image from your site. They are the same. That’s just the browser natively loading up that 1748 × 794 image.

  10. 9 years, 6 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

I’m not sure what the setup was before. I’m just explaining what you’re seeing there. When that image loads up in a new tab, you aren’t in WordPress anymore, it’s just your browser loading an image from a url. The same as if you loaded an image in your browser from your desktop.

    Hi, I Work Here

This image here: http://fkancestry.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/WilJLBP1.jpg. Please check it in Photoshop or similar. There is left and right padding within the image itself.

  12. 9 years, 6 months ago Seamus Fleming

Sure , thanks Andrew -ill tray that – odd though that the ”off centre” screen position applies to ”all the images” since this morning – I’ll test and tinker around it and maybe as well test a resize image to larger cos I have a hunch that may do something …. it is weird for sure but noticeable all the same …

    I’ll update U anyway Andrew – thanks again .

  13. 9 years, 6 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

For sure, let us know how it goes.

  14. 9 years, 6 months ago Seamus Fleming

    Sure , thanks again Andrew.

  15. 9 years, 6 months ago Seamus Fleming

What may be happening is that the image positioning may now be taking the caption into account also and while mnot showing it , making space all the same. In the full image. . … so when U click on the image to enlarge, while it does not show the caption element enlarged , the image positions itself to make room for it in any case..
So the image is smaller now and also now at the base of the enlarges image there now is a white blank space along the base … exactly where the caption would be …
That deffo was not there before ….

So now also – ill try taking out a caption from one image and see how it positions on the full screen then.

Thanks Andrew – ill update tomorrow. Nice eve,

    Hi, I Work Here

Perhaps try running the test I went through. Open the image via your site and then in a new tab, open the same image from your desktop. You’ll see that the layout, spacing etc. is exactly the same. So it doesn’t matter if you open that image via WordPress or via Chrome using the image on your Desktop. The point I’m making is that there is no WordPress in that tab, there is no caption being taken into account, it’s just Chrome, or your browser, loading up a media url.

I’m just running this one line with you. I’m not sure what was up before or why the images would have changed, sorry I don’t have an answer there. What I do know is that there is no control at all from Vantage or WordPress on this url here: http://fkancestry.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/WilJLBP1.jpg. That’s your browser loading up an image.

I’m trying to think what might have happened, possibly image sizing changes after upgrade, it doesn’t sound likely though.

Try my test or run the caption test you mentioned, it should hopefully confirm what I’m saying here.

  17. 9 years, 6 months ago Seamus Fleming

    Perfect, I
will do Andrew. I’ll update U tomorrow. Appreciate your help and patience… thanks ever so much again.

    Hi, I Work Here

    No problem :) Chat tomorrow.

  19. 9 years, 6 months ago Seamus Fleming

Slight update Andrew. You re spot on, the CAPTION makes no difference.
I did not try altering the image size as yet.
    But
I did the test as per your guidance.
I cannot attach the image/docs file so I sent that separate to you in word docs on a separate mail.
There appears to be a buffer created all right on the base and RHS of the screen when the image is enlarged.
    I attached three screen shots
1 from the chrome, 2nd from the desk top and 3rd from the IExplorer.
The desk top is what the enlarged full screen was like prior to upgrade/update.
There is a buffer on the chrome and IE as per screenshot. Lots of screen space at the base and RHS that was not prior there.

    Prior to upgrade/update
The desk top shot would have filled the screen perfectly and evenly previously and I had it fitting exactly . now the image is pushed to the top LHS and is smaller for some reason.

If I am making sense as yet Andrew? See what you think,

  20. 9 years, 6 months ago Seamus Fleming

Files attached with screen shots of image full screen test ( desktop, chrome and IE ) as advised per Thread message Andrew.

    Thanks again

    Hi, I Work Here

So to confirm, the second/middle image is how it looked before? Are you sure you weren’t running a lightbox plugin before and now that’s de-activated?

  24. 9 years, 6 months ago Seamus Fleming

Indeed Andrew, second image opens from desktop – shows the centred image as it would appear enlarged on full screen with no buffer at all around the sides of the screen it fitted perfectly.

I had ‘lightbox plus colorbox’ but it conflicted with some other plugin so we deactivated that a long while ago. I did nt yet discover where the conflict was but I just switched it off and did nt activate since …. perhaps I should try it again !!

  25. 9 years, 6 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

A centered image with a dark background, that would need a plugin of some sorts. At some point I mentioned Jetpack Carousel to you. That only works for galleries but you can insert a single image gallery. So that’s also an option.

  26. 9 years, 6 months ago Seamus Fleming

The black background is not the website image – is is the desktop opened via the HPPC Photo tool.
    Its a HP pc,
When I clicked on an image from the website before – the image filled the screen evenly when enlarged with out the black background of course – that image shows the even centred image at source that was replicated but larger via the website.

Apologies if I’m confusing the issue …. Thanks Andrew

  27. 9 years, 6 months ago Seamus Fleming

I tried the jetpal Carole – with omen image – it opens the image as like the 2nd I sent to U , but what I had up to now was better – I got the full screen effect , even , centred and no buffer.

  28. 9 years, 6 months ago Seamus Fleming

Jetpack did nt give a full screen .. as far as I remember from testing it.

    Hi, I Work Here

To my knowledge there isn’t anything we can do to change the formatting or styling of a link like this:

    http://fkancestry.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/WilJLBP1.jpg

That link isn’t in WordPress, our theme stylesheet doesn’t get loaded there.

Let me drop you an email quickly so I can send through an image easily.

I unfortunately can’t really spend much more time on this.

  30. 9 years, 6 months ago Seamus Fleming

Sent U another image to help explain Andrew, Thanks again.

  31. 9 years, 6 months ago Seamus Fleming

Its ok, i’ll play with image size tomorrow . if that works then i’ll rework the attachments Andrew.

Just odd that it happened like so to all the singe images. The galleries and carousels are fine.

Chest mate . ill update U anyway. Regards Seamus

  32. 9 years, 6 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for the clarification. What you’re seeing there, the area where you drew black lines. That’s standard. When images load up in the browser they are positioned top left. When the image is beyond a certain size it’s loaded slightly reduced in size. When you hover it you get a magnifying glass icon, clicking on it enlarges the images. To get behaviour other than this we’d need to perhaps check out a plugin solution.

Wish I knew what you had setup before/why, but what I’ve said above is true for how images, direct image urls, load up in the browser.

  33. 9 years, 6 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

Try something for us. Go edit that image, hover over it and click the pencil to edit it. On the right at the bottom there is a drop down menu where you can select where to link the image to, change that from Media File to Attachment Page. That’ll load the image up in a theme page. Give that a try.

  34. 9 years, 6 months ago Seamus Fleming

Super… I actually have all the images linking to media file…
I'll do that now. Let u know. Thanks Andrew.

  35. 9 years, 6 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

Ahh ok, so that’s not it then, but yeah, worth a look.

  36. 9 years, 6 months ago Seamus Fleming

Apol. Should I edit the image in the media library or in the visual editor on the page. I edited the pix in the visual editor and when I changed to attachment … It just opened the page again…

  37. 9 years, 6 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

In the Visual Editor. Just be sure to save everything before re-checking, refresh your page before trying again. If you’re running a caching plugin that might need to cleared first.

  38. 9 years, 6 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

  39. 9 years, 6 months ago Seamus Fleming

Perfect – yup , I updated that . ill clear the cache and do again. Cheers Andrew . thanks

  40. 9 years, 6 months ago Seamus Fleming

did that again – cleared cache and updated , it is set to attachment page for sure – when I click the image now it simply opens the same page in another tab ( I have it set to open in another tab) but I thought it would open the image itself.

  41. 9 years, 6 months ago Seamus Fleming

apologies Andrew – possibly did nt get that right. ill try again. I cleared the cache at the top of the page … ” delete cache”

    Andrew ,

I sent you the access details. If you need athg else be sure to ask please.
There is no urgency with that – take your time . This is a winter project for me . so slow and thorough is my motto, .
We will sort it for sure one way or another. I am very happy with the site so far and all thanks to yourselves. Appreciated.
So deal with your other priority client business first. Thanks Andrew. Take care.

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks, here is a demo page: http://fkancestry.com/demo/. The attachment option isn’t working. I’m not sure what’s up with that. If you want to diagnose you’d need to try testing with all non-SiteOrigin plugins. However all the attachment option does is load up an image in the theme, instead of a blank page like we saw before. I think your best option moving forward is to find a lightbox plugin you’re happy with.

  48. 9 years, 6 months ago Seamus Fleming

    No bother Andrew,
ill come up with something.. I think in general the site is logical and manoeuvrable and looks good for a novice.
Family tree images will have to be readable and centred to the eye – so’ ill work on that and look for suitable plugins to accomplish a full centred screen for those data type images.

i’ll explore it over the next few days. I will certainly try Lightbox Plus Colorbox perhaps again… or the like as you say.

Thanks for trying Andrew, appreciated. I will certainly update U if I happen to by chance crack this nut.

Have a neat weekend. Seamus.. Thanks again.
