Font Awesome icons in Service widget sometimes need a different class

Hello,

I’m working on a local website where I use the Perth Pro theme from aThemes in combination with the SiteOrigin page builder.
Somehow not all (free) Font Awesome icons get to be displayed in the Services widget (you get to see a thin square instead).
In the inspector I noticed that these icons automatically get the class “.fa”.
On an icon which isn’t correctly displayed I changed the class in inspector from “.fa” in “.fas” and then it appeared just fine.
Thing is I don’t know where/how to edit this setting, plus if this is a ‘global’ setting it might affect some of the other icons that are displayed fine now.
Could you please tell me how I can change the class for specific icons used in the Services widget?
An example of an icon that only gets displayed right when it has the class .fas is “fa-tshirt” (just a regular, free, Font Awesome icon).

Thanks in advance for any help.

Best regards,

Edwin

    Hi Edwin

    Thanks for posting.

There isn’t a method without custom development that I can think of to change the class. Just at a glance, this sounds like it could be a conflict with other plugins using FA. Do you perhaps have a URL available where we could view the problem in action? If not, could you recreate the issue on a test page?

    Hi Andrew,

    Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately there’s no link to the website yet, since I’m developing locally on my computer.
Since the mentioned FA icon didn’t show up at all, I first tried to install the WP Font Awesome plugin.
After that the square place holder got displayed, but not the icon itself.
As stated the only way to display the icon was to change the class from .fa into .fas in the inspector.
When I deactivate that plugin again the place holder no longer shows up, and changing the class of the icon in the inspector doesn’t make any difference.
As fas as I can see, this is the only other plugin connected to FA.
Other plugins I use on the site are:
    – Child Theme Configurator
    – Crelly Slider
    – Duplicate Post
    – Imsanity
    – Limit Login Attempts Reloaded
    – Page Builder by SiteOrigin
    – Perth Portfolio
    – Product Slider and Carousel with Category for WooCommerce
    – SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle
    – TC Custom JavaScript
    – Toolset Types
    – UpdraftPlus – Backup/Restore
    – WC Catalog Enquiry
    – WooCommerce
    – Wordfence Security
    – WordPress Importeerder, and
    – Yoast SEO

The Font-Family used seems to be “Font Awesome 5 Free”.
And the theme I use is Perth Pro by aThemes, which requires SiteOrigin page builder.

Hopefully this information gives you a clue on how to solve this problem.
Maybe there’s a way to include another icon font in the Services widget to get widgets displayed properly?
    Any suggestions would be welcome.
    Thanx in advance!

Best regards and have a great day,

    Edwin

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Edwin

    Thanks for your feedback.

The Services widget would ideally need to be supported by the author, that isn’t our widget. Do you perhaps want to try the SiteOrigin Features widget as an alternative? It’s part of the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle plugin. Sorry for missing this earlier! I think I made the mistake of thinking of our Features widget when you mentioned Services. If the Services widget comes with the theme so it’ll be aThemes that would need to look into the issue, the code isn’t ours.

The SiteOrigin Features widget does offer a few icon libraries. I think it’ll be quite similar. Let me know how it goes, either way.
