Favicon support

Hi there,

I’m looking to include a favicon for my site. I’ve added my favicon.ico file to the root of my site – the file can be found here: http://laurencariscooks.com/favicon.ico . The .ico file has 4 resolutions of my favicon: 16×16, 32×32, 48×48 and 64×64.

It’s now showing up on my admin pages, but not on the actual site pages. Having tested it on the WordPress 2015 theme it works perfectly on the site pages, so I believe this is a Vantage theme issue. To verify, I’ve made sure I’ve cleared the cache etc. and even checked on a computer that has never visited the site before.

I would prefer to avoid bloating my site with further unnecessary plugins, so is it possible to fix this without using the “all in one favicon” or “favicon by realfavicongenerator” plugins?

    Hi Lauren

    Good to hear from you.

    All In One Favicon is our recommended/preferred plugin for this, we use it ourselves. It’s pretty lightweight, in spite of your goals mentioned, I’d still recommend running it.

    The only other way to include one would be to use a child theme, copy header.php, insert it into the child theme and then insert the favicon tag in the head.

    <link rel="shortcut icon" type="image/png" href="/favicon.png"/>

    I’m not sure why Vantage wouldn’t be displaying the favicon while Twenty Fifteen is. The Vantage header is pretty standard. Sorry I don’t have more here.

    Hi Andrew,

    Thanks again for the help. Updating the header.php with the link html unfortunately didn’t seem to work for some reason (the code was very similar to what I was already trying to use). However, by using a plugin, all is now working perfectly.

    I eventually ended up using the Favicon by RealFaviconGenerator plugin, primarily due to the number of options it comes with (iOS, Windows 8, Android app icons, as well as conventional the favicon), and also due to the fact that All In One Favicon hasn’t been updated in a couple of years.

    Will let you know if there’s any further issues but all seems to be working perfectly for now!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Appreciate the recommendation, always nicer to run an actively developed plugin.

    All the best.
