OK, I know that title may be a bit odd, but that’s basically the steps i’m trying to take and what is happening when I do.
So I have a site I developed on one server, and I need to move it to a new server.
I can export my pages, which downloads an XML file…but…when I import that to the new server, all of the links inside are now no good, because they are absolute and based on the server I moved them FROM.
However, I cannot flip over to the text editor on those pages once they are imported and go in to fix those URLs, because once I do, I break all of the structure that has been built.
So, I thought I would be all smart and stuff and just edit the contents of the exported XML file, fix the URLs to be what they need to be, Import it and, “VOILA!”…except…no….
When they get imported, it is as if the page “knows” that I have tinkered with it, and it immediately behaves as if I have switched over from the Page Builder editor to the text editor, and all formatting is stripped out, before I even do a thing.
Can anyone let me know a good way to fix those URLs without breaking everything? VERY much appreciated! :)
Hi David,
I would recommend using Velvet Blues Update URLs to update the old instances of the URLs as it will handle the data correctly.
