Export Page Layout – Confusing…

Hello,

All I want to know is how to export a page layout that I built. But when I click on ‘layouts’ all it shows is a button for me to import, not export. I have read a few threads about this and some of them have info from years ago or conflicting information which makes me unclear of which road to follow. So what the latest?

Here’s the deal, I have been created the layout on a test site (WordPress subdomain) using a Siteorigin North child theme. Now I want to seamlessly migrate that layout/content over to a totally different top-level WordPress domain which already has content on it. I just want to have that existing content overwritten with my page builder content. I know I could copy & paste stuff manually, but I was hoping to be able to do this in a more streamlined and professional approach. It only one page so I should be able to move this fast and seamlessly, but I’m still unsure of the best approach in my situation. Please advise.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Multimastery,

To export a page please click the Layout button in the Page Builder toolbar.

    Select Import/Export on the left

Click Download Layout to export the layout.

This is the same area that you’ll import the exported layout too so when you’re ready to import it, simply go to the same area but this time click the Select Import File and select the previously exported layout and click Insert (not pictured but it’s at the bottom right).

Please note that exported layouts do not contain exported images so you may need to readd them if the website doesn’t already contain the exact same images already.

Thanks Alex, I totally missed that “Download Layout” button the first time I looked at the interface. I guess I was expecting to see something that said export file rather than download layout. You guys may want to consider changing the wording on that because by reading some other threads seems like a lot of other people are missing it too.

    Hi Multimastery,

I agree. I’m going to bring this up with the development team.

Well I did the import and I noticed that some things weren’t quite the same. For instance some things weren’t align right even though both theme layout setting were exactly the same and even the video appeared smaller on the site I imported it to. Why is this??

    Hi Multimastery,

Unfortunately, that’s not a question we can really answer. I can, however, state that the only things that aren’t carried over in the export are images and any shortcode settings that are independent of Page Builder (such as a Meta Slider). I would recommend double checking your theme settings to ensure they’re the same.
