Exclude sub-parent posts from a parent category archive

Hello SiteOrigin Helpers

This seems to be a fairly frequent WordPress hack but I’m hoping that SiteOrigin has a simple solution.

Using Vantage, is it possible to exclude posts in a sub-category from appearing in the parent category archive? At the moment when I click on the category archive page I get a list of all the postings in that category and the sub-categories mixed in together. Is it possible to filter out the sub-category posts so that only posts to the parent category are shown?

If you know of any widget that comes close to doing this I’d appreciate it.

Thanks for your attention.

    Hi enticknap

There is unfortunately nothing native to Vantage that can do this. I had hoped we could do something with the Post Loop widget in Page Builder and query_posts but no dice there either.

I gave this plugin a try and it seems to work well:
