Error with WP Admin Menu when using SiteOrigin Image Widget

I have recently been affected by an issue in the Page Builder, which occurs only when I have a SiteOrigin Image Widget in the page.

The WP Admin Menu and Featured Image boxes get affected as per below. Looking at the HTML of the page shows that instead of the usual images, it’s been replaced by:

<img src="#3861" alt="Mochi's favourite mode of transport!" srcset="" title="Mochi's favourite mode of transport!">

Any ideas of what may be causing this / what to look for in clashing plugins etc?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Greatvaluepack,

Did you mean Widgets for SiteOrigin plugin? If so, that’s not actually our plugin. I would recommend reaching out to the developers for assistance with this.

If not, can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? I ask as we haven’t received any reports of this issue so we suspect it’s quite likely another plugin is interfering with our plugin.

You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

If you aren’t using a SiteOrigin theme, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

    Hi
I have narrowed the problem down to the Yoast SEO plugin (I have v7.8 installed).

The issue is not with my theme or the Widgets for SiteOrigin plugin. It’s an interaction with the “SiteOrigin Image” widget, which is part of the starting package in SiteOrigin I believe?

My PHP is v7.1, PageBuilder v2.7.2 and SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle v1.12.0.

    Any further suggestions?

    Thanks
    Jon

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Jon,

Yes, the SiteOrigin image widget is a standard widget in the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle. The reason why I mentioned Widgets for SiteOrigin as it appears when the menu messes up and there’s really no way for the SiteOrigin Image widget to actually affect anything on the backend so it doesn’t make sense (this is not to suggest you’re wrong or anything like that, only that I can’t explain it so I’m looking for a possible cause of the conflict). At this point, I really need to take a look at this issue. Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look?

    Hi
This has been done. Please let me know if you can or can’t see the details.

    To recreate the issue:
    -add a new post
    -edit in PageBuilder
-add a new SiteOrigin Image widget, add any image, fill in title text, choose title position ‘below’, fill in alt text
-add a new SiteOrigin Editor widget, type any text in the body
    -set a Featured Image
-save as a draft (please don’t publish!)

Now, when you are in the Edit Post screen you will see the icons in the menu and the featured image get messed up by the bug.

    Many thanks

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi,

Thanks. That’s odd. I’ve tried replicating this offsite (with Yoast activated) using your instructions and wasn’t able to. WOuld it be okay if I run a plugin conflict test?

    Sure, please go ahead.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Greatvaluepack,

Thanks. I think I’ve spotted a possible cause. Can you please Disable Javascript Concatenation? This will require editing your wp-config.php file so if you need help with that, I would reach out to your hosting provider.

    I have added
    define( ‘CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS’, false );
to the public_html/wp-config.php file… seems like the error is still showing though(!)

    Any other ideas to try?

    Thanks

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Greatvaluepack,

Thanks. That was purely to give me an idea of where this is coming. I’ve been able to identify the cause and that has allowed me to replicate this issue locally. This issue will be fixed in the next SiteOrigin Page Builder update.

  12. 7 years, 4 days ago greatvaluepack

Thanks. Out of interest what was causing the bug?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Greatvaluepack,

It was a general issue with the improved compatibility code we’re recently implemented – basically, the changes weren’t as targeted as they should be.

Thanks for the update. Has the patch with the bugfix been released, or do you have a rough time estimate please?

(It was still presenting itself last night)
