Hello,
I get this error when I check on google webmaster tools
Error: Missing required field “updated”.
Error: Missing required hCard “author”.
I see a solution for the vantage theme but I don’t see how this would be compatible with origami.
I am running a child theme
Hi Philipp
Please could you try this child theme and let me know how it goes. You can install via Appearance > Themes > Add New : Upload Theme.
https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/origami-child-google-authorship.zip
Hi Andrew
I am having the same problem, and have just installed your child theme (and checked that it is activated!).
Testing with Google’s structured data testing tool on a number of pages still shows the following:
Error: Missing required field “updated”.
Error: Missing required hCard “author”.
Pages tested:
http://hairy1travels.com/hairy1travels/using-high-iso/
http://hairy1travels.com/hairy1travels/cloudy-tenby-sunrise/
http://hairy1travels.com/hairy1travels/autumn-leaves-reflections/
For what it’s worth, authorship is linked to my Google+ profile.
Hi Andrew
For what it may be worth this page ( a page as opposed to a post) http://hairy1travels.com/hairy1travels/galleries/i-went-there/london/london-at-night/ shows only the missing updated field. A few pages seem to be the same, while all posts are missing both the author hcard and updated value.
Thanks for testing Jeremy. Please could you try attempt two for me:
https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/origami-child-google-authorship-02.zip
Thanks Andrew
I have tested it and now get a different error:
——————- Copy start —————————-
hatom-feed
hatom-entry:
entry-title: Using High ISO
updated: 4 October 2014
author:
Error: At least one field must be set for Hcard.
Error: Missing required field “name (fn)”.
—————– Copy End ———————–
This was on the same three posts as above.
The page still shows the same error as above.
Please try this one for me: https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/origami-child-google-authorship-03.zip.
My testing is showing that updated is still not reflecting. I’m not sure why as we now have in there:
Hi Andrew
Excellent – fixed for the posts. Tested against those three posts with no errors shown.
Still showing the error on the page. Looking at this: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/how-fix-warning-missing-required-field-updated-in-genesis-theme, and a couple of others, they are referring to
Within the the Google testing tool, I can’t see the HTML you referred to above, though.
Hi Andrew
I think there’s a different problem on the page. Checking through the source, searching by “updated”, I am not seeing any date references. Searching for “datetime” I can only see dates in the masonry block on the page, but not in the main body. Looks like that line is not being generated, certainly on my installation!
Hi Andrew
Just checked the post page, and the date line you referred to is there. So the page issue is not about the code used, but the fact that the line itself is missing.
FYI this is a Page Builder page.
LOL – bad scene – I was a programmer too long (COBOL and many other weird things). Now i have got the scent of this and want to dig more! :)
Thanks for the feedback. Glad we’re getting somewhere. I’ll take a look at introducing this for pages for as soon as possible but right now the changes I made were only aimed at posts.
Thanks for your help Andrew. I look forward to seeing the page changes.
Try this one: https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/origami-child-google-authorship-04.zip
Same fields added to the page template.
Hi Andrew
Looks great. Google’s structured data tester is showing no errors on pages or posts.
Many thanks for your help.
Hi Andrew,
thanks for your good support always. I tried to install the child theme above and indeed all errors were gone. However I use the Vantage premium theme and the child theme of origami doesn’t work. How can I load this child-theme into the Vantage premium theme?
Again thanks a lot for your good support always and beautiful theme.
Luca
Hi Luca
Please give this child theme a go: https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/vantage-child-google-authorship.zip. Hopefully does the trick.
Hi Andrew thanks a lot, I installed and activated it. However the header color is gone and all pages are displayed in the menu, making the menu bar covering the entire page. I tried to change it in the settings, but these are the same as in the parent theme, so this may need a bit of CSS coding I guess.. And testing in google webmaster doesn’t give the expected result yet. Hope you can help out? If you need any info let me know..
Thanks again for your great support.
Hi Lucas
This is an expected result. When activating a child theme you need to redo all Customizer and Menu settings. However test the child theme out before doing so. Have you tested in on posts or pages? I believe that child theme is only setup for posts with regards to Google Authorship.
Hi Andrew,
thanks for your reply. The menu settings remained similar to the vantage pro theme and even after checking all and saving again no changes. Since my website mainly consists of pages, I guess that explains why the 3 errors remain there after “live” testing with webmaster tools.
There are many discussions in general regarding this topic. I tried to add the items as described in the following post: http://fivera.net/hatom-feed-hatom-entry-error-wordpress-solution/
However since I even couldn’t find the the_title in single.php, i guess the vanatage theme overrides these. May the solutions in the link above be applied someway in the Vantage theme? If you need my login codes I am happy to forward to you.
Kind regards,
Luca
Looking at the child theme I linked you to, I’ve already included all the same entry meta on pages that appears on posts. I’ve then used the child theme’s style.css to hide that info on pages but it’s still present in the page data.
What is Google saying is missing?
Hi Andrew,
Thanks again for your reply. After activating the child theme, below I pasted from the live test tool on webmaster tools of google:
Extracted structured data
hatom-feed
hatom-entry:
entry-content: Enjoy a full day of what Bali has to offer. Any Bali full day tour can be found on this page. The selected tours are perfectly suitable for the whole family and are meant to be relaxing or cultural….
Error: Missing required field “entry-title”.
Error: Missing required field “updated”.
Error: Missing required hCard “author”.
Kind regards,
Luca
Hi Luca
Please could you open a new thread for me with your url listed and the child theme activated if possible. I’ll take a look at the problem ASAP. Please also let me know if a particular page was tested.
Thanks
