Error linking WordPress with Vantage Premium To Google+

Hi,

I’m following the correct protocol fro linking WordPress to Google+ for authorship verification. I need to do this to geta custom URL for YouTube. I’m getting the following error on the structured data testing tool

Error: Missing required field “updated”.
Error: Missing required hCard “author”.

I’ve seen this problem on various WordPress threads. In some cases it was theme related. Is there a fix with Vantage Premium.

Thanks for the help

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Hugh

We do have a child theme ready to fix this. We’re super close to pushing the 2.0.4 Vantage update. If you can hang on a little that update will resolve this problem.

Great. Can you direct me to the child theme in the meantime. I’ll use that while I’m waiting for the update.

    Hi, I Work Here

Sure. The downside of activating a child theme is that your Customizer settings will be reset. Just a heads up there.

Here is a child theme you can try:

    For sure Andrew,

I was going to just copy the line of code form the child them and paste it into my own child theme. Can you tell me which lines of code deal with the issue?

    Thanks,

    Hugh

    Hi, I Work Here

    That’ll be best.

    Child theme:

    Functions:
You’ll need to take lines 3 to 28 and copy those over the original function found in /inc/template-tags.php.

    Style:
Lines 12 through 18 need to go into Appearance > Custom CSS. You can delete them after the next Vantage update.

    Content Page:
Lines 19 through 21 need to get inserted below entry-title in the same file in the parent theme. You could also just overwrite the entire existing content-page.php with the child theme’s.

    Thanks Andrew,

    I’ll do that

    Hi Andrew,

Has the latest Vantage premium theme update fixed the Google Plus link problem. I still don’t seem to be able to get a custom youtube URL after following the linking instructions using the Google+ Author information plugin from WPbuddy. Thanks for the help.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Hugh

Can you perhaps explain a bit further. The problem as we understood it, was that Vantage was missing the following:

    Error: Missing required field “updated”.
    Error: Missing required hCard “author”.

Those fields have been added in to the latest version, so your site shouldn’t be failing on those points at least.

    Hi Andrew,

Yes I don’t see those errors anymore. Google is changing everything so quickly that the structured data testing tool page is different now. In any case these errors are not showing. I’m stumped. Perhaps its the service provider I’m using that needs some parameter changed. Can you tell me if other people have successfully linked back Google Plus authorship with Vantage Premium. That might indicate that its a problem with the way I’m setup the GooglePlus settings or the ISP parameters.

    Thanks

    Hi, I Work Here

We unfortunately haven’t done any testing using that tool ourselves. What you might try doing is search for a theme that is advertising being compliant. Test with that. That test should narrow down whether Vantage is producing a problem if it’s the process that’s the issue.

Good idea. I’ll try that when I get time. Also maybe I’ll set up a free something.Wordpress.com test blog and see if it works with that as I’ll be using WP’s free server. I’ll let you know what the results are to help your other customers.
