Enabling Widgets Bundle leads to additional 4+ seconds of page load.

Hey guys,

Not sure what’s happening here, hoping you can shed some light.

I’m using the latest PageBuilder on latest WordPress.

My page load time goes from 1 second to 5.4 seconds when I enable the Widgets bundle. I narrowed down the issue to the widgets bundle, but disabling plugins one by one. The Page Builder itself doesn’t cause the issue, but enabling the widgets bundle does.

I’m seeing a Apache CPU spike on the server when page requests are made.

Please let me know what additional info you need to help troubleshoot.

Thanks!
Dima

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Dima,

Huh. That’s really odd and shouldn’t be happening. I know this will sound odd, but could you try a plugin conflict test? It’s possible another plugin is doing something that does at all play well with the Widgets Bundle and while you’ve obviously done practically a conflict test already I just want to make extra sure there’s no chance of conflicts going on here.

For reference, here’s the plugin conflict test:
This sounds like it could be a plugin conflict issue. Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

If you aren’t using a SiteOrigin theme, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

    Hi Alex,

Thanks for your help. Here’s some data that should hopefully isolate the Widgets bundle to rule out the possibility that there’s a plugin or theme conflict. I don’t consider myself a WordPress expert, so please let me know if I need to do something else.

The site has a bunch of plugins, but none of them are caching plugins.

Here’s what I did. I measured site load time using Google-hosted PageSpeed website (ttps://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/). It responds instantly to site changes, so I think it does a good job ensuring there’s nothing cached on the Google side.

    Here are the results:

    My WordPress site
… with all plugins enabled: server response time is 5.8 seconds
… with no plugins enabled: server response time is 0.33 seconds
… with only PageBuilder enabled: server response time is 0.56 seconds
… with only PageBuilder + Widgets Bundle enabled: server response time is 4.1 seconds
… with default 2015 WordPress theme and only PageBuilder + Widgets Bundle enabled: server response time is 5.8 seconds

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Alex,

Thanks. Let me try to do that. It’s a site in production, so it probably makes sense to make a copy so that you can mess around and change settings.

Will then follow your instructions. Will let you know when site is ready.
