Hi Lads,
I noticed that embedded youtube videos do not register counts on youtube when they are played. I have double and triple checked this with the native embed widget, with the shortcodes ultimate embed option, and with some plugins. It’s related to the iframes tag. There’s a couple of blog post formus that report this also but not that many. When the old embed code is used the counter updates immediately in real time just as a view on the native YouTube channel does. Youtube has emoved the old embed option now. Don’t know if this is a WP issue or what. It seems the only workaround is to put a linked JPEG of a YouTube thumbnail to the actual channel video.. Any thoughts or suggestions? Does your SiteOrigin site register counts through the embed widget?
Thanks,
Hugh
Hi Hugh
This is a known bug in the iframe api. Google have listed it as wontfix meaning they are not even looking into it as it is ‘partially’ by design to stop increased view counts by using autoplay options. Users are currently fighting to get this issue fixed with google. Unfortunately, now the older method has been deprecated this is what we are stuck with.
Hope this helps

Hi Hugh
Hopefully the answer from Magus helps explain that a little. If there is anything else we can do, please let me know.
Magus, thanks for your insight on this topic, it’s most appreciated.
Thanks. I guess I’ll have to put up with it then or use a hyperlinked jpeg.
If you place the code generated from the link below into a text box it will embed with the old code and count hits. Wont work with HTML 5 though

Hi Hugh
Those would be the embed codes that google deprecated in January this year. Towards the end of the year they will be pulled and no longer work. Hopefully by then the iframe will be fully integrated with their system and count views.
Magus
Thanks Magus. Sounds like that might work at a short term solution then.
Thanks for the help Magus. Saved me wasting a lot of time.
