Embedded Video Resizing Itself

11 years ago · Last reply by Andrew Misplon 11 years ago

I have embedded a YouTube video on my site, but regardless of the method I use, I cannot get the video to stay at the size constraints I set. The page will first load the video at the correct size (560 x 315px) but then immediately blows it up to fill the entire live area. I think this is a hiccup with the responsiveness of the site because the video does decrease size as the browser window decreases.

I first tried using the HTML embed code straight from YouTube, then I tried the default WordPress shortcode. I then tried two different [iframe] plug-ins, all to no avail. Each time, the video size would not stick. Just in case, the YouTube video link is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmaFe3p4Sfs

Any suggestions on what I can do, any specific custom changes I can make to the Vantage theme or otherwise?

Thanks!

    Hi Naomi

Vantage uses FitVids to dynamically re-size videos to the device being used. The downside of this is the behaviour you’re seeing. You can de-register FitVids by installing the following child theme from Appearance > Themes > Add New: Upload Theme:

    https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/vantage-child-de-register-fitvids.zip

Activating a child theme will cause Customizer and Menu settings to reset. Test the child theme before re-doing those.
