Editing the page with page builder breaks the html

Hi, we’ve been using page builder for some time, and we’ve made one page in our own site with it www.sininenharka.fi/tyot. After the latest update of page builder with the graphic view, we can not edit any information on the page without the html code breaking completely. After the code breaks, it still looks perfectly fine in the graphic and text editor, but the page itself looks broken.

I can also send some more informative snapshots about the problem via email if it’s possible.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Milla,

Would it be possible for you to send me an export for the linked page? To do this please open the linked page in the editor and click Layout button in the Page Builder toolbar. Then click import/export and then click download. Please upload the export to a 3rd party file hosting site such as teknik.io.

Can you please create a new page and enable page builder. Click the Layouts button in the Page Builder Tool Bar and select Clone: Page. Find and clone the page that’s having issues and then save the page. Does the issue occur there? If so, can you please link me the resulting (and incorrectly formatted) page?

    Hi,

First, thank you for your answer! I somehow missed this answer before so that’s why getting back to this so late. Here’s the exported code from the page that brokes: https://u.teknik.io/FVDab.json.

We also made a new test page to which I cloned the layout from original Tyot-page. In the test-page the problem didn’t occur and I could change anything without breaking the code. This is the resulting page https://www.sininenharka.fi/testi3/. I don’t know if it has an effect but we’ve used pretty much .css in the original Tyot-page to define the breakpoints and the maximum height of the cells/blocks.

    Hi Milla,

Thanks. To clarify, what does the page look like when you’ve made a few changes to the text?

Does this issue occur when you edit any of the text widgets or is only a few specific widgets?

Does installing Add Paragraphs Option to Text Widget and then editing the text widgets help?

    Hi,

Here’s a screenshot about what happens when I changed the text just a little bit https://u.teknik.io/nKUmI.png. And here’s once again how it’s supposed to look http://www.sininenharka.fi/tyot. There are only text widgets there, and the issue occurs when I change anything from the text widget.

Thanks for the plugin tip, we will definetly check that plugin after holiday season. Until that we’ll have to manage with that page how it is.

But could it be possible that there would be just a simple “custom code” widget in the plugin? Widget with only html and without the graphic view.

    Hi Milla,

But could it be possible that there would be just a simple “custom code” widget in the plugin? Widget with only html and without the graphic view.

Unfortunately, no. Prior to WordPress 4.8 that was what the text widget was. WordPress is going to introduce an equivalent widget to the old text widget in 4.8.1 so that could be used in the future.

To clarify, once the plugin is installed it’ll revert the text widget to how it was before 4.8 (being a “Simple Custom Code widget”). You shouldn’t have to do anything further to resolve this issue. As such, I would highly recommend trying it to resolve this issue. Outside of that, you’ll need to wait for the WordPress 4.8.1 update for a possible solution but I’m unsure if the new HTML widget will help.
