Edited page from “History”, now page won’t load.

Hello SiteOrigin Team,

I’m reaching out because a page I edited from choosing a version under the “History” tab won’t load. I just continue to see the red bouncing ball.

I’ve changed over 2 themes and the homepage appears (jumbled and strange, obviously as all changes were made in the theme). I’ve tried making further changes and hit Update hoping to “jump start” it to no avail. But when I deactivate the PageBuilder plugin, the homepage appears instantly (but not as it’s laid out using the active plugin).

How can this be remedied?

Thank you

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Mjordan,

The SiteOrigin Page Builder History tool will only display the history of current edits and not edits made during a different session. For edits made previously, you’ll want to use the WordPress Revision functionality to restore those changes.

With that said, can you please show me a screenshot of what you’re seeing when you select a History item? Also, could you please send me the contents of your console? Please refer to this guide on how to access your browser console.

Please note that we currently don’t support attachments so you’ll need to upload the screenshot to a third party image hosting site like Imgur or vgy.me.

Thank you for the tip, Alex. The edits/revisions I was referring were made in the same session.
Here are the steps I took leading to this issue (for brevity I’ll revert to a bulleted format):

    • I edited the page with a few changes
    • Decided I didn’t like a couple changes
    • I clicked the “edit history” and chose my revision
    • Began editing again
    • Updated the page after all changes were made
    • Page shows the page was updated
    • Page no longer appears and shows the bouncing red balls but never loads.

Please see the following screenshots for reference:

    Clicked History:

Continued editing (within the same session):

    Page shows page was updated:

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Mjordan,

Oh. Sorry, I had thought this red dot was present in the history preview rather than on your direct site. Hm.
Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look? This will allow me to run a few tests to work out what is causing this issue.

    Hi Mjordan,

Unfortunately, I haven’t received an email from your website yet. Can you please try recreating the account? Please note that you’ll receive notification of when we receive the email.

Hmmm. Perhaps it arrived in your Junk/Spam folder (if that applies). I'm deleting and recreating.

Thank you for letting me know, Alex.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Mjordan,

Thanks. I’ve run a few tests and it appears as though the Events Calendar widget on your home page is breaking your home page. Have you made any recent changes to that widget? If so, does reverting those changes help?

  11. 5 years, 9 months ago mjordan

Interesting. Thank you for the insight, Alex (as I've not ever had issues to this extreme with PageBuilder in the past).

I see that you're still editing the page (which locks me from accessing it). I will test a few things with ti once you are done.

You were absolutely correct, Alex. Removing that element brings the page right back up.

Hmmm. It worked with it (Events Cal) before. I will have to play with it a bit more.

Alex, thank YOU for being able to assist where I (and my hosting provider)
failed in pinpointing the issue. Time to work around this/view the benefits of your premium offering (and find a new provider). :D

    Thank you again,

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Mjordan,

After my previous reply, I ran a few tests to rule out possible issues with recent changes made to the Sidebar Emulator and that didn’t prove to be fruitful. It’s not very likely, but it would be a good idea to rule out a plugin conflict – these sort of complicated plugin conflicts can and do happen after all.

Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins (leave the Events Calendar activated) and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

If that doesn’t help, try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

Thank you for the guidance, Alex. I went through this process before reaching out to you all.

    The homepage loaded fine when:

    – switching to a default theme (TwentySixteen) with SOPB enabled but
    Events Cal did not work
    – deactivating SO PageBuilder and Events Cal worked fine using our desired theme (but the page layout was undesirable)

From that it seemed that the Events Cal and SO PageBuilder didn't play well together on the same page. But since it worked before as a smaller widget the homepage, making it a larger element may be causing some "clashing" of some sort.

Thank you for your time with this, Alex. You are truly appreciated.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Mjordan,

    Thanks for confirming.

Can you please enable WP_DEBUG and WP_DEBUG_LOG and then view a page with the Events Calander widget present? Enabling these two configuration settings will require editing your wp-config.php. If you need help with that, please reach out to your hosting provider for assistance.

This will allow for any possible PHP error messages that are occuring to show. It’s quite possible, due to the theme preloader we won’t actually be able to see the error message but that’s okay because WP_DEBUG_LOG will log any errors in the debug.log file which can be found in wp-content directory.

    Awesome! Thank you Alex.

I will require assistance with that so that process may not be as quick (or efficient) to execute and share with you.
