Edit existing front-page.php with new page

7 years ago · Last reply by John Mcgowan 7 years ago

We have a website built by a third party and have recently used Site Origin Page Builder to add a number of pages with great success. Fairly straight forward considering i have never done this kind of thing before. Following the success of adding 15 or so pages i started to create a new Home page ….. thinking it would be simple to change existing homepage for the new one!!

My question is how can i add my new home page details to the current front-page.php. I did try to copy and paste the contents in but the formating disappears along with the images etc.

At this point i need to emphasise … i am very new to this and quite stupid !!

Any help gratefully received

John Mc

    Hi John,

Okay so normally for pages you simply edit the contents of the page through SiteOrigin Page Builder directly – you don’t alter the base PHP file. Is there a specific reason you’re unable to do that with your home page? For example, is your theme preventing SiteOrigin Page Builder from running?

Regardless, to answer your question SiteOrigin Page Builder needs to be rendered using PHP so copying and pasting your page layout won’t work without using PHP.

    Hi Alex

Thanks for coming back to me. My hope was that i could make my new Home Page a static page within the Theme but this does not work.
Front-page.php controls the landing page of the web site. If i open the existing Home page in WordPress all i see a Carousel. Front-page.php calls this after setting up the header, other images, footer etc.

Very frustrating as setting up the rest of the pages with SiteOrigin was simple.

    Hi John,

Thanks for clarifying. This is happening as a result of the theme you’re using. I would see if removing front-page.php allows for WordPress to handle the contents of the page and if it doesn’t, I would reach out to the theme developer for help with overriding the themes front-page.php. Unfortunately, this isn’t something we can specifically help with – sorry mate.
