Dropdown submenu on toggle not hover

Hello,

I’m using the vantage theme and I have a main menu with many items. I want to leave the first level of menu items to appear on hover, but then I would like the following level to dropdown on toggle. How should I go about accomplishing that?

In the main menu the item is “library”, which contains a large number of “books” in a multicolumn format, and each book has multiple “chapters” under it also in a multicolumn format. I need the “chapters” to appear on toggle because the chapter submenu will overlap other books in the submenu.

To be clear, I want the “books” submenu to appear on hover, but the “chapter” submenu to appear on click.

Some prelim research indicates that I need to add some custom javascript to modify the behavior of the “book” menu class… but I don’t know where to add this code.

Thanks!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Joshua,

I want to leave the first level of menu items to appear on hover, but then I would like the following level to dropdown on toggle. How should I go about accomplishing that?

Unfortunately, this isn’t possible without a fair amount of custom coding. This is beyond the scope of what we can help you with on our forums, but you could hire a developer to implement this for you.

Personally, I would recommend looking at a Mega Menu type plugin like Max Mega Menu. Max Mega Menu won’t allow this either but it’ll give you more display options overall.

We recommend using Codeable. You’ll be able to hire someone at an hourly rate to do this work for you.

Thanks… I may want to use Codeable in the future if I run into issues.

I was able to fill the need with the Max Mega Menu plugin!
