Does nextpage work with Page Builder?

Hi.
Does nextpage (if I put the brackets around it my post is rejected as spam) work with page builder?

I want to break some of my longer posts and pages into multiple pages. The standard WP way of doing this is to insert nextpage into the text where you want a new page to begin.

When I do this with page builder apart from page numbers (Pages: 1 2 etc…) appearing at the bottom of the page nothing happens, the page is not split.

If I click on a page no. it just reloads the whole page.

My theme is SG Window which supports pagination on posts and pages. I have tried writing pages using just the visual editor and nextpage works fine, but this defeats the purpose of having SiteOrigin page builder.

If it doesn’t work is there a fix or workaround?

I really enjoy using SiteOrigin page builder and don’t want to change because of one small issue.

Thanks

After trawling through the support & forums going back a couple of years it seems this is a longstanding issue to do with the way page builder is constructed.

Fixes have been requested for this multiple times, but it seems no joy so far.

This is a basic WP function and very annoying when it is disabled.

As it seems that, disappointingly, SiteOrgin don’t seem to have a fix for this or seem to be working on one, has anyone found a way to get this function working?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Martin,

Unfortunately, what you’ve found is true – we don’t support nextpage. This sadly isn’t a very high priority at this time and that’s mainly due to its removal from the editor toolbar. Sorry mate. :(

There aren’t any alternatives at this time as far as I’m aware of.

    Hi Alex.

    Thanks for the reply.

The page break is still on my Sit Origin editor toolbar and working (it inserts nextpage), is its removal being planned?

There is a need to paginate, not just for me as others would like to have this feature working, is there a code workaround I can do to get this function, or if you can point me in the right direction so I can figure one out.

Right now for long posts/pages I can reload them into the WP visual editor, tweak up the layout to compensate for some layout features I lose by doing this then publish, not ideal but a lot faster than building pages from scratch.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Martin,

This may sound odd, but are you using something like TinyMCE Advanced or an older version of WordPress? I don’t remember the exact WordPress version but the NextPage editor button has been removed from WordPress for at least a year and a half at this point. To clarify, we didn’t remove the button, WordPress did. They also recently (in WordPress 4.7) removed the Underline and Justify editor button so if those are present you definitely have something adding them back (or you’re using an older version of WordPress).

Unfortunately, there aren’t any available workarounds at this time. You’ll need to try and use a plugin that allows for this – we sadly don’t have any suggestions for a plugin at this time.

    Hi Alex.

WP is bang up to date but have been using TinyMCE advanced for a long time. I’ve now disabled it on a test site (without any page builders loaded) and can now see what has disappeared, I had no idea.

Although Pagination still works it is faster inserting with it the Page break editor button than switching between Visual and text editors and typing nextpage in, so I am happy I chose TinyMCE.

I’ve now loaded Gutenberg onto the test site to see what else WP has coming.

Meanwhile, when I have the time I will fiddle around to see if I can find a faster solution than the one I’m currently using.

    Thanks for the update.

    Martin
