Hi Bob,
You can do this with the Post Loop Widget. Once you’ve added a post loop widget select a template that allows for this – typically called a blog template. If your theme doesn’t include many loop templates (standard WordPress theme files, not SiteOrigin Page Builder specific files) you may be limited in choice.
I recommend installing the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle to get more control over the loop.
Hi Alex,
Thanks for the reply.
This moves me forward because I now know that I should use a Post Loop widget, that will save me a lot of time looking at other ways of displaying a post.
I am a little confused about the blog template. I have never heard of those before and I sure my template doesn't have any.
Can I find one from the web ?
Many thanks,
Bob
Hi Bob,
Happy to hear that it helps you. :)
Okay, so typically your theme will include one template. At the very least we’ll back up on what is used for your typical page. For reference, Vantage (which is a SiteOrigin theme) has quite a few. Some of them are made FOR the post loop widget while others are typical template files.
Now to “find more” your best bet is a different theme but obviously that’s not always possible. You could, in theory, grab a template file from another theme but I wouldn’t recommend it. Chances are the markup of the page differs from your theme and it will likely cause display issues.
Hopefully this helps.
Hi Alex,
Yes I am much nearer now, my theme does include templates and one is very suitable. I have done the query which returns one post, that's all I need for now but the post is not displayed. Just an error message to say that the post cannot be found.
Any ideas?
Bob

Hi Alex will do later to day and will let you know.

Hi Bob,
That’s fine mate – no rush.
Hi Alex,
I have set up the new user as you suggested.
Perhaps it’s best if you just create a new page called site origin and insert a post loop widget that displays any post or category of posts.
Many thanks

Hi Bob,
Sorry for the delay – I’ve been flat out since we last spoke. :(
Okay, so I’ve set up an example expat look post loop which is set up as a private page. Please only look at how I’ve set it up, rather than directly viewing it. What I’ve done does work, but due to the templates, it doesn’t. I would suggest contacting your theme developer for advice on this.
The issue is likely due to how they “handle” posts for the template file. They process it incorrectly and when the template file is directly called without their setup code it will cause an infinite loop. This is all kinds of wrong and I’m unable to help you with this issue personally. I’m sorry.
Hi Alex,
Thank you for looking at my problem. I could never have figured this out on my own.
I will get in touch with the template developers. To see if they can correct the problem.
If not maybe I should use a site origin template. As I really like the pagebuilder way of doing things a new template may be the best way.
Now I just have to work out how I can reduce the size of thumbnails on the post carousel, small is always more attractive.
Once again many thanks for your help I really appreciate it.
Hi Bob,
Please install the Simple Image Sizes plugin. Then navigate to WP AdminSettingsMedia and adjust the carousel image size and then save. Then, regenerate thumbnails. This will “refresh” your images server side but you may still need to clear your browser cache to see the updated image.
Thank you Alex, will do
Bob
Hi Alex,
I hope you are having a good day.
I have two queries you could help me with please.
1. Is there a way to check the pixel width of a row element
2.Is it possible to merge cells (spreadsheet style) so I can have row elements of different heights.
Not sure if that makes sense, but you never know.
Hi Bob,
1. Not at this time, no. :(
2. You can technically do something like this with the layout builder widget (which is included with SiteOrigin Page Builder). Although at the same time you could add the desired widgets to different columns. Could you please clarify your use case, maybe there’s an alternative method that might be a little more suited.
Hi Alex,
Thanks for the feedback.
I have solved both issues.
1. First I needed find out the width of my page. I looked at the code with the CSS inspector and found it was 1200 Px then just applied the % as shown in page builder.
2. That was really easy. By accident I dropped a second plugin into the cell I was editing and guess what. They both show up in that cell, just the way I want. I hadn't realised I could have two plugins in the same cell. Really excellent.
I am a happy camper now,
All the best,
Bob
Hi Alex,
I hope all is going well with you.
Just a quick question. I am considering buying a visual composer widget to display weather on my page builder grid. Here is a link
https://codecanyon.net/item/better-weather-wordpress-and-visual-composer-widget/7724257?ref=85ideas&ref=85ideas&clickthrough_id=760887411&redirect_back=true
Do you think Visual Composer will work with Site Origin Page Builder Grid
Hi Bob,
Visual Composer widgets aren’t compatible with SiteOrigin Page Builder due to how they’re setup – ie. not proper WordPress widgets. Sorry mate. :(
Thanks for the info, it saves me wasting time and money.
Bob
Hi Alex,
I have a few queries I hope you can help me with so here goes.
1. Is it Ok to contact you for support or should I go through the support form?
2. Is there any progress on selecting pages for Custom CSS. I know you guys were working on that. Currently I still can only work with the front page so effectively Custom CSS is a dead duck for me.
3. I received a mail from SiteOrigin regarding the Premium service. I think I would like this but there is hardly information about the add ons. Is anything more available yet.
4. I am trying to use CSS to edit a widget but I have tried a number of different approaches with any success. Could you give me a simple example of what goes in the CSS style box.
5. I need to edit colour and border of containers ( not a row) so they are presented properly on my pages. I can't seem to find a way of doing it. This is my biggest problem.
Sorry to drop so much on you. I think Site Builder is great and it's nearly there so I will probable go with the Premium support soon.
Hi Bob,
1. We would ideally prefer a new thread as replying to existing threads with unrelated questions / issues can make it harder for other people to find a solution to similar problems.
2. I’m unsure what you mean – you’ve been able to navigate to other pages for as long as this thread has been here. Simply click a link, then click the Navigate to: link just above the inspector to be able to move to that page.
3. Please refer to the product page or its documentation for more information.
4. The CSS styles box is for inline styles, so for example:
Notice the lack of a selector. To clarify, these styles are purely for the widget container, not the widget itself. If you would like to apply things directly to the widget contents I would recommend using SiteOrigin CSS. Simply add a class via the widget styles attributes field, for example… example, then navigate to WP AdminAppearanceCustom CSS:
5. Could you please provide further context or maybe a link to where I can see what you currently have?
Hi Alex,
Thanks for the quick feedback. That clarifies things for me. I will open threads for my queries in future.
