Disappearing Data?

I’m very new to this, but I’m having trouble using Page Builder and I hope someone can help me.

The steps I’m taking are: from Edit Page > Page Builder tab > Add a Row (2 column) > In left-hand column, Add Widget > Add SiteOrigin Editor > Open Editor and add text. In right-hand column, Add Widget > Add SiteOrigin Image and add image. (Through ignorance, I haven’t done much with Widget Styles, other than check I’m not putting white text on a white ground!)

Once text has been added, hitting Preview at the bottom left of the Editor shows me the text I’ve added (same for the Preview with the image). So, hit Done, and I’m back at Edit Page (worryingly, I can see Word count: 0). Hit Update and, whether using Preview Changes (under Publish) or Page updated / View Page link, the page opens and there is no text and no image shown (and, when I go back to the Edit Page, and check the SiteOrigin Editor, the text has disappeared, and checking the SiteOrigin Image, the image has disappeared too!).

I have the feeling this is something really simple that I’m failing to see, or do, but the frustration is off the chart. The attempted build is on LocalHost using WAMP. I’d appreciate any steers on this.

Tia David.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Davidh,

This sounds like it could be a plugin conflict issue because what you’re attempting is honestly very simple and shouldn’t be causing you issues. Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

If you aren’t using a SiteOrigin theme, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

Thanks Alex, I shall try the disabling route (and a different theme, if that fails to work) and I’ll let you know. It does seem to me very simple (a reason for my building frustration).

Okay, initially, I had an even more curious result.

I deactivated all but SiteOrigin’s plug-ins (I don’t have that many to start with), changed the theme (to WP Twenty Fifteen), and cleared the cache (Firefox 58.0.1). On the page, I then placed a two column row and added the Editor to the left hand, Image to the right. Now the – initial – curious result as I tried to ‘edit’: On both columns I was taken straight to (what would be the Preview) page! Both, of course, showed up as blank.

Starting again (checking that no plug-ins other than SiteOrigin ones had, somehow, activated, clearing cache etc) this time both the Editor and Image took me to the correct area. After placing text in the left hand column, and an image in the right, I hit Update. Then, launching the page, I was given a blank page (all it had were the site title and the named links). And, when I went back to the Edit Page and checked both Editor and Image, the text and the image had both been stripped out (as if I’d not just placed text and an image there).

Regardless of this being ‘something simple’ – and it will be – I shouldn’t be having this. As I tend to do, I look to Windows as somehow being the root cause of any problem (I’m using Win10, and it’s garbage). WAMP I know nothing about, although it appears to be running correctly, and Win10 has previously ‘clashed’ with my choice of default browser being Firefox. Somewhere though, in the set up I’m using, there’s something which is stopping SiteOrigin’s plug-ins from working correctly . . . if you have any idea(s) on how to move forward I’d appreciate your input.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi David,

    Sorry for the delay.

That’s odd. What you’ve described sounds like a server side security module but that’s obviously not possible as it’s a local install. Oddly, I’m using WampServer without issue on Windows 10. You’re using WampServer, right? Hm. Maybe try disabling your anti-virus temporarily to see if that helps.

    Hi Alex

My apologies for the delay in updating this problem. Purely as a ‘guess’, I tried using Edge, rather than my default browser (Firefox 58.0.2) and everything began working as expected. Perhaps needless to say, I have no idea why!

My site (on a localhost) appears okay when I bring it up using Firefox, but I can’t edit using Firefox. Whether this is something SiteOrigin should look at, or whether this is some quirk as I use Firefox with your plug-ins on Win10, is something I don’t know. If you do run any sort of test using your plug-ins within a Firefox install, and you have no problems, I’d appreciate some short feedback, but right now it doesn’t matter as I can move forward using Edge.

Here, I would point out that, some time previously, I used your Vantage theme, with your plug-ins, using Firefox, and I did not have any problems at all. (Although, currently broken from a hacking, please see:PhotoVisuals). The current ‘problem’ (if I use Firefox) is a total mystery!

Many thanks for your help and advice.

    Best wishes, David.

    Hi David,

That’s really odd. Hm. Maybe try disabling all of your browser extensions to see if that helps. Also, please try clearing your browser cache.
