Difference between Site Icon and logo in Vantage Theme Settings?

By VWFeature, 7 years ago. Last reply by Alex S, 7 years ago.

I have some confusion about the difference between the logo in Vantage Theme Settings
and
the Site Icon in Appearance> Customization > Site Identity

If I use the standard masthead, that seems to show the logo in Vantage Theme Settings, and the size makes a difference to how big it is on the page. If I change to ‘logo in menu,’ it’s small and stays small.

What’s the difference??
Where does the Site Icon show?
Can I get the ‘logo in menu’ to be bigger?

Which becomes the favicon?
Thanks!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi VWFeature,

    The Site icon is the favicon (bookmark icon, tab icon, iPhone Website shortcut icon, etc) and the Logo is the one used by Vantage to display the logo.

    They’re both basically just images but they’re separate as a lot of users don’t wish to use the same icon in both instances.

    You can make the logo bigger when using the Logo in Menu Masthead layout by disabling the Constrain Logo setting. To do this, please navigate to WP AdminAppearanceCustomize, Theme SettingsLogo and untick Constrain Logo. Please note that this will show the full size of the logo so if your logo isn’t sized correctly by default it’ll be massive – you’ll need to either adjust it via WordPress or manually resize it and then upload a new version.

    How about making the logo SMALLER in the masthead?
    It’s too small when part of the menu. too big in the masthead. There’s just no pleasing some people.

    Hi VWFeature,

    The normal masthead layout uses the same setup as the unconstrained logo. It’s the full size of the logo. You should either resize the logo via WordPress or resize it outside of WordPress and then swap the logo over with the resized logo.

    Alternatively, you could use CSS but I wouldn’t recommend it. Please add the following CSS to WP AdminAppearanceCustom CSS:

    You can change this with some custom CSS. If you navigate to AppearanceCustom CSS, you’ll get our custom CSS editor. Just add the following code.

    .logo img {
    	max-height: 250px !important;
    }

    You might also need to install the SiteOrigin CSS Editor.
