Deleted Page Names Refuse to Leave Menu Bar

Deleted page titles still remain in drop down of main Menu bar.
The pages do not show in the page dashboard. My 404 page error arrives when selecting the non-existent page.

“That page can’t be found.
It looks like nothing was found at this location. Maybe try one of the links below or a search?”

I have confirmed caching is occurring during set times plus I did it on demand. It worked to clear up other areas…so I don’t think cache is the issue. And selectively activating and deactivating plugins has not yet discovered any issues.

Ideas?
Thanks again.

    Hi oldasdirtuser

Just to start right at the beginning, can you confirm that these aren’t still present under Appearance > Menus in your custom menu?

Andrew, correct. They do not show there. Nor do they show in the regular dashboard. They are showing on desk top menu bar (horizontal) dropdown tab pgs. There are a total of 3 pages that have deleted by choice. All were sub pages.
These name tags continue to reside there.

I have checked my phone to see if they are showing there…they are.
I have checked on 2 other computers (one on same network) in both instances…they are still showing.

In case it may help others…i thought i would share….
it was a TOTAL user issue-
Being in the trash/deleted … is not the same as being deleted forever…
Until you take the last step of removing PERMANENTLY from the trash.
    (sigh)
I liken it to put trash in the trash bag, but still the trash has to be taken to the curb.
    Live and learn!
Hope this novice’s panicked past can help ease a troubled blog owner. ;)

Ahh right, that makes a lot of sense. We see this Trash problem with slug names, like “about-2”, WordPress won’t allow you to name the page slug “about” until you’ve deleted that page from the Trash.

Thanks for sharing, I’m sure this will help someone. Sorry for not suggesting this earlier.
